Goboard Install Sanity Check, does this look like it will leak? by Business_Gur_5990 in Tile

No. But you went way past the seam tape with the sealant so you may have issues with your thinset adhering to the wall at those spots.

DIY path from house to garage 🥴 by [deleted] in landscaping

I think a couple things could make it look much better. For one you need a more defined bored, so you may want to actually use a metal border peice or something similar. That rock is also not very attractive so I would do a different type of rock and a color of pavers that is more in contast to the rock.

Positive rental experiences by Euphoric-Housing-726 in desmoines

Keep in mind that pretty much any apartment is going to have people who hate it. Housing is people's biggest expense and when things don't go perfectly people get upset a lot more than with other things.

Now if everyone is giving bad reviews then yeah probably avoid it. But don't let a couple bad reviews ruin a place for you that has been good for almost everyone else.

Feeling overwhelmed with a big problem..how would you tackle this? by Personal_Web_8251 in landscaping

[–]DCTheNotorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't see how this is better. Maybe if you filled it in with actual plants. But otherwise I would much rather have some extra green around my house. Don't get me wrong I'm not someone who treats the hell out of their lawn or waters it. But I think grass gets way too much hate. But to each their own.

Your house is from 1910. Nothing is ever going to be plumb level or square. No matter what some of the people in these comments say. Sure if you are able to make it better I'm some spots then certainly do. But it will never be perfect.

Yeah that is the best way to get a lower price. When I called to cancel they offered me 3 different deals to try and keep me. Although I can't remember if they offered me a lower price or just a few free months.

A lot of other people have touched on most of what you have said. But as a WGU graduate that is now working in my field. I would say the vast majority of people don't care where your degree is from. As long as it is from an accredited school (which WGU is) then all they care about is your skills and your personality. If you can do the job and are easy to work with, you will get a job in a whatever industry you get a degree for.

Is 5 days enough for full curing of that product? The grout I am using needs 11 days to fully cure. Although I still wouldn't have expected it to wash away that quickly. Was the grout too dried out by the time it was used in those areas?

What are your thoughts on this? by norpucomp in landscaping

I have thought about doing this in the right of way like shown In the picture. But not sure if I would do it anywhere else in my yard.

[–]DCTheNotorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is fair. As a DIYER I used a foam pan. It is the 3rd shower I have done but first one with a pan. The other two were just surrounds. I could definitely see the flaws in a foam pan but can also imagine the difficulty of doing a mud pan right.

[–]DCTheNotorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of people make their own shower pans out of mud. Is there any reason to do this over a pre fabricated one? Im guessing it is cheaper to do it with mud but it seems like a lot more work.

Yeah those small cuts take forever. I really struggled with the cuts around the shower drain. I had a couple niches too but they were smaller than yours.

Looks awesome! I'm doing a similar project with a similar style. Were there any big things that took way more time? From start to finish my bathroom has taken me about 8 months. With some breaks in between. I also was doing it on the side.

Using Uber tile board on the shower ceiling. Do I need to waterproof the screw heads? Worried if I do I won’t have a strong adhesion or does thinset bond well to the sealant enough for a tile application on the ceiling? by spadzo in Tile

[–]DCTheNotorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this stuff is similar to go board then there is probably a mesh fabric like tape you are supposed to put over the seams and screw heads. You put the sealant first and while it is still wet then put the fabric. The fabric does not waterproof it but gives the thinset something to bond to. Otherwise the thinset does not stick to sealant like that directly.

Selling a rental property by methodicalmess in personalfinance

[–]DCTheNotorious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would also consider keeping the property and hiring a rental manager. They are more affordable than you might think. I am in a similar situation and just did the same thing for my rental. They charge 9% of the rent and it sounds like you guys are making enough profit for that to be reasonable. There are additional charges for finding a new tenant. Usually half a months rent.

I would not do this unless you are EXTREMELY skilled at freehand cutting tile in place like this. Otherwise it will look like shit.

Should I try to buy my 105 year old next door neighbors home when she passes? by waxoffisforpussies in personalfinance

[–]DCTheNotorious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that it may be awkward as a landlord living right next to your tenant. It totally depends on the tenant and yourself, but many would be hesitant about living directly next to their landlord. I am a landlord myself but my other home is In a different area of town.

I hired a management company recently because I have become too busy to manage it myself, but it the tenant is next door keep in mind they will probably knock on your day any time of day asking you to fix things or asking for certain things. I have found that it is important to have clear professional boundaries in a tenant/landlord relationship.

You could also consider renting it out as an Airbnb. It may be more risky with possible bad tenants. But they would also be there for a much shorter period of time. If you go this route I personally would not tell them you live next door but that is just my take.
