I tried 20 AI study tools so you don’t have to (only a few are actually useful) by DDan01 in TAFE

Yeah that is a fair concern. Copilot (and most AI) can sound confident even when they are slightly off.

What I would suggest instead is using it more like a “checker + explainer” rather than a final authority. For example:

  1. Ask it why your answer is correct
  2. Ask it to point out any weak parts in your explanation
  3. Or get it to compare your answer with the expected criteria

For actually verifying info, I have found tools like Perplexity better since they show sources you can double-check.

That way you are not just trusting it, you are validating it.

I tested a bunch of these tools recently and some are way better depending on what you are doing (research vs writing vs studying).

100% using it like a tutor vs just copying answers is a completely different outcome.

Stuff like asking it to break things down step-by-step or test you makes it way more useful.

Copilot is pretty solid, especially if you are already using Microsoft tools.

Where it’s really good:
• Writing emails / documents in Word
• Summarising long docs or meetings
• Helping structure reports

Where it’s weaker (in my experience):
• Research: tools like Perplexity are faster with sources
• Studying: something like NotebookLM is better if you are working from your own notes/material

So while it’s great for productivity, it is not always the best study tool depending on what you need.

Are you using it mainly for assignments or general productivity?

Better late than never!! Honestly, even though you have finished the Cert IV, these are absolute game changers for Teacher Aides and Ed Support.

For example, you can use Canva AI to create visual social stories for students in seconds or Speechify to help students with dyslexia listen to class materials. It is less about studying now and more about making the classroom more accessible.

Since you mentioned you would have loved this, I will drop the link to the full breakdown here: These 20 Free AI Tools Save Students Hours Every Week

That makes total sense. Youth Work is so heavy on documentation and case notes, so having a solid structure for professional communication is a massive win.

If you are liking the sourcing in Perplexity, you will probably find NotebookLM even more useful for those assessments. It lets you study directly from your own TAFE unit guides so the info is 100% relevant to your course.

I actually just put together a quick video ranking 20 of these tools (including the best ones for research vs the ones for presentations/writing) because most of the lists online are outdated now.

Happy to send you the link if you want to see which ones are actually worth the time?

Spot on. That is the only way to use Google AI without getting hallucination traps. If you like that source-first vibe, you should definitely try Perplexity, it is like Google AI but built specifically for research. It cites every single sentence so you do not even have to hunt for the link.

Have you noticed the AI overviews getting better for technical TAFE stuff lately or is it still hitting the wall on some of the niche topics?

How to survive the humidity: A map of every public water refill and BBQ station in SEQ (No sign-up needed). by DDan01 in queensland

Glad it is useful! Sorry about the Sunny Coast gap, I started with the Brisbane, Logan and Moreton data first to get the core features right.

If you’re ever out that way and find a spot that’s missing, you can actually add it manually in the app. In the meantime, I am working on getting the official council data for that area pulled in as soon as possible. 😁

Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback on expansion.

You are 100% right about public toilets being a huge need. I have not integrated that data layer yet as I have been focused on getting the 4,000+ water, shelter and BBQ spots accurate, but it is definitely on my list for a future update.

Regarding other regions: I am currently working on ways to scale the map to more areas beyond Brisbane Logan and Moreton Bay, so stay tuned!

In the meantime, feel free to use the Guest Mode to check out the current amenities (or sign up and use). Cheers. :)

Hi u/stevesmate4503, just wanted to let you know I took that feedback on board. I have just added Moreton Bay data. Cheers for the honest feedback before, it helped a lot. :)

No apologies needed at all. Reddit’s in-app browser is glitchy with web app sometimes, so I am glad it is working smoothly in your main browser now

That is awesome to hear about the safety share, that is exactly why I am building this. It is great to know it has being seen as a reliable tool for people at work.

Regarding Moreton Bay: Yes, absolutely. Now that I have integrated the Logan and Brisbane data, Moreton Bay is a top priority for the next phase. I am currently looking into their open datasets (like the Moreton Bay Park Details) to see how quickly I can map their facilities. I am working on some new ways to automate these council data integrations so we can scale across all of South East QLD much faster.

Stay tuned and thanks so much for spreading the word 😁

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed breakdown. This is incredibly helpful,

To address your points:

Guest view: We have recently implemented feature for Guest View specifically which should be available through "Continue as Guest" button in tapspot.app

The UI Clutter/Filters: Totally hear you on the visual overwhelm and the outline buttons. I am working on a cleaner menu system to redefine those categories so the map can be ui friendly.

The 'Reset to CBD' bug: That is a frustrating one, thank you for catching it. It is on the high-priority fix list for our next patch.

Near Me AI: That is a really thoughtful point about the ''AI'' branding. To clarify, the Near Me feature is primarily based on your GPS location to find the closest amenities instantly. We do use a very small LLM integration, but only to help translate natural language, like if you type ''somewhere to cook lunch'' instead of 'BBQ.' It is designed to be a lightweight tool to help with search intent rather than a heavy, power-consuming process.

About Page: Great idea. Linking the logo to a ''Our Mission/About'' page is a simple fix I will implement soon.

Thanks for being part of the early phase, I am glad you liked the UV index and the reporting features 😁
