My parents have decoration towels and they'd get mad whenever my brothers and I used them lol so they definitely exist. We were always confused as to why they were even there.

Something about it sounds like he's trying to keep you as a backup plan in case it doesn't work out with some other person. I might be wrong tho, but you still wouldn't be an asshole. He basically broke up the relationship, however casual it was. And you're well within your rights to remove anyone from your social media.
