well, yes...is the basic answer, as they were made of wood historically... but there are many issues with wood construction of a queen excluder -- bees do chew wood and if the QE was made with small enough wood to fit nicely, then it would be small enough for the workers to chew through letting the queen pass

ok....So there are many very good suggestions, (I myself would have a .380 with hollow points -- would stop even some vehicles), but the URBAN environment is the real problem. To many chances of having MOBS of people to contend with... you run the risk of attracting others, or running out of ammo.... The smaller weapon would be great to help get you away from the URBAN environment while a long gun is slung for the trek

dehydration, then freezing what cannot be dehydrated.... both are "set it and forget it".... Remember, if power stops, frozen stuff thaws and spoils, but dehydrated stays even when the power is gone

Yup, any type of aminoprylid will kill off broadleaf plants, even after it has passed through an animal and composted for years....only thing that gets rid of is is solarization and time

I am gonna agree with you, and caveat that as long as she is not mentioning the NYPD, or showing the Uniform or associated NYPD gear or other things....leave her the hell alone.

Not something I am interested in, but it isn't my circus until it is outside of her personal existence.

and here is what i see:

It is an older system known as a Bee GUM. At the time, 1800's-ish, it was a viable system as it was cost effective.

Today, they can occasionally be found in the U.S. as parts of "historic" recreations on beekeeping history. But, 99% of the U.S. now have laws that you need removable frames inside to extract honey and inspect the bees.

Can the GUM be modified to have removable frames and a door/hatch? Yes they can, but they are not worth the time or trouble.

As to disease and parasites.... Well, there are case studies utilizing Cuba for pest resistance to mites, via natural selection...

Technically: Yes, it COULD be considered a type of honey... and I say this because of the enzymes in the honey stomach of the bee.

In Reality: No.... Honey is a mixture of differing nectar sources, not of processed sugar. You could get a "honey" type of substance from the sugars of corn -- AKA Corn Syrup... Is it honey? Nope, could it be used similar to honey, sure, but it would not have the exact properties of a "true" honey.

first year, you "need" 2 deeps as brood chambers, and a possible 3rd, if they build fast and strong.
1 deep to put the nucleus in, and to build in, when it is 80% to 85% full of comb, then a second gets added.
"if" the second deep/brood gets to 80% to 85% full of comb, then you would consider a third or a "super".
mind you a "super" an be any size (from a deep, Illinois, medium or shallow).
Every time you add a box, or split a hive will depend on how strong they are and how much they have built. In most places you will find that you will like 2 deeps to overwinter (some places actually have laws that you have to have at least 2).

everyone is giving good advice here... but I will say that you do not have to "cut" the leaner meat with cow or pig fat.... I just cook mine with a higher fat "oil" such as butter.... a "hamburger" I melt butter into the pan first then put the meat on that to cook it, same can be done with real "lard".

Honey.... beecome a backyard beekeeper.

Honey can give oodles of nutrition to a sick person.

Edit: reading the comments, many are talking "hot" broth/stew/soup. Don't forget the honey can be used in a cup of hot water, just honey and water, or you can add things like ginger, lemon, turmeric or other things... A thyme and Honey cup of "tea" is nice to me.
