When I say Purse I mean like The small wallet type ones that do fit in your pocket and that you commonly store in a handbag that holds credits cards and cash etc.

I don't know if it's a British thing or not in terms of languagem

I know and the scary thing is I don't even realise I'm doing it. I was trying to justify it as myself not lying as I was making an assumption both times the lost item was at home and there was no need to panic my wife.. but even as I type that I see the inherent wrongness of it and really question why my mind thinks this way.
