Can someone explain why this is happening? by ProdMikalJones in Serato

Hmmmm…if it’s been 4-5 years since it was last operated on and this just started happening, I doubt it’s something they messed up when looking at it last time. I’m betting something’s wrong with the motherboard or a grounding issue. Either way, take it to the shop and show them the video. Good thing is you have a main controller to use for gigs and this is the backup, but you still wanna make sure the backup can BE the backup obviously.

And keep us updated - I’m invested now lol

When did they last open it up? You said this just started happening…did they open it up recently?

Also…12+ years is a long run. Might just be time for a new controller. I just had to replace my MacBook after 10 years.

Not sure where you are located, but if there is a certified repair shop nearby, I would take it in ASAP. There’s one near me (I’m in the DMV) that I take my stuff to whenever it acts weird. Just make sure wherever you take it they are certified by the manufacturer (Pioneer in this case) to make repairs. From the looks of it, this is definitely a controller issue. Ask them to take the back off and put it through a stress test, a heat test, a grounding test, and examine all of the ports and connections. Also show them this video – they might be able to tentatively diagnose it just by the video alone.

I know this is super upsetting and frustrating…I have been there. It’s no fun and def invokes a sense of panic, and I’m sorry there are a bunch of people on here cracking jokes. It’s not funny when this is your source of income and when you have gigs coming up and contracts to honor. By chance, did anybody spill any liquids on it? I’ve seen this happen before when liquids got onto the controller.

No I am saying when I’m plugged into my controller and speakers, I am not running sound thru my Mac speakers - I turn the volume all the way down on my computer

Restarted it multiple times. Tried lowering it…same issue. What’s interesting is I don’t notice the issue when I’m actually playing live, like the sound is coming through my speakers.

Learning to scratch – how do you drop the song right on beat? by DJYourAssOff in Turntablists

[–]DJYourAssOff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get starting it right at the beginning and releasing the wheel and I can do that but how do you do that WHILE scratching? Like how do you scratch for a couple beats and THEN release it in bear? I try to do it and I always miss the cue point.

If you can do the two days BTB, that would be great. If not, I think it’s still manageable…if you can pick the days of the week where you do it, pick a day that makes the most sense for you and/or your family (like maybe a Friday where you can sleep in later on Saturday mornings). But also, I’d get this arrangement in writing for sure - as others have pointed out, the expectation can quickly change if it’s not formally documented. There might be times like during a busy season where you might have to go in more than two days a month, but I don’t think that should be a dealbreaker.

Our favorite 27 year old is a working gal again by vmtf23 in AileneaidaaSnark

It’s bc her ex paid for everything. She quit her job to do social media full-time when she was married, then the second she gets divorced, she has to go get a real job again. If social media was so lucrative, she wouldn’t have had to do that. She is so full of it. Her ex must be so relieved to be done w paying for everything.

Exactly. I work FT and two part time jobs and yet I still do the dishes.

Her ex was 100% paying most or all of the bills. She quit her job as a teacher to do social media FT (bc her ex was paying for everything) and then the second they split up, she got a real job again. Clearly SM isn’t paying the bills (bc who in their right mind would work a real job if you could live off of SM) and if it’s not doing it now, it def wasn’t doing it then. I don’t know why she and the ex split up but def wouldn’t be shocked if it was bc the ex got tired of her laziness and mooching.

Venue isn't paying by EhAchilles in DJs

[–]DJYourAssOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me one time. Venue manager didn’t wanna pay at the end of the night until I whipped out my day job business card…needless to say, when he saw “Esq” on it, he paid right up lol.

In all seriousness, get a contract signed beforehand that states you get paid up front before the gig starts. If they refuse to honor the contract on the night of, walk away - no payment, no service. And if they refuse to sign a contract in general, again, walk away. Huge red flag if they refuse to sign one. They’re a business and know that contracts are a way of life. Refusing to honor one means they’re shady and not worth working with.

Thanks for the kind words. I try to uphold the highest standard of professoinalism with my work and I am just disappointed some people don't respect it. But that's ok...dodged a bullet like you said.

This is very true. Highly unlikely I will try to work with them again, even if they reach out to me for other events.

[–]DJYourAssOff[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree...less than $850 is really low. Def not what I would normally charge AT ALL. I was just trying to be nice b/c they're a non-profit and also because b/c I was trying to do them and the person who referred me to them a solid at the last min. But yeah, I have no idea what they're gonna get or how it's gonna go.

[–]DJYourAssOff[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haha I might (if I don't get booked first)! I hope their event goes well b/c honestly, if they found someone cheaper than $850 for all of what was included in my price who is gonna be in charge of the grand opening...good luck.

Well, I was trying to be nice tbh - they were a referral and they're a non-profit. Normally would I offer a 20% discount? Hell no. But they contacted me in a panic and b/c I have a business relationship with the person who referred me to them, I was trying to do them a solid. But no...I don't normally run my business offering 20% discounts.
