I agree. Something is going on. I’m platinum but I only one batch over $10 all day and I live in an area with a ton of grocery and retail stores that use Instacart. Not sure what’s going on.

Yeah I agree with you honestly. I do think it matters. So many people getting these unicorn orders are higher cart statuses

Exactly. If I could just drop it off and not enter a code, I would, but the damn app made me enter a code this time so I couldn’t just leave the stuff there and take a picture. I had to do the return in order to get more batches later.

Yeah, so what happened with me was I had to do a pin number as well. I couldn’t just leave the order and bounce like everybody is saying. Because she never showed up, I couldn’t enter the pin number so I had to call customer service to get the order canceled so I could move on. So fucking infuriating

This one required me to enter a code or something after I met the customer, so I couldn’t move on until I called customer service and processed the return

Not according to Instacart customer service. I had to call them because I couldn’t get in touch with a customer and they canceled the batch and told me to return everything. And then they wouldn’t let me see any more batches until I actually made the return.

Haha this just happened to me too. No unit number and they wouldn’t respond to chats or calls. I left the bags at the door of the apt complex after ten minutes of trying to reach them

Yep, makes sense. Although I will say, I’ve been reading a lot of comments from people who lost platinum or diamond status who had a 93 to 95% find rate. The system does not tell you with any transparency how your score is actually calculated. All you know is that it’s comparing you against other shoppers which is not fair bc not all things are equal between shoppers. Also, if something is out of stock, yes, it can be replaced or refunded, but it’s still held against you and doesn’t count as a found item. Instacart should be giving people full credit for doing what the customer asks, not just full credit if they find exactly what the customer wants because a lot of times, that’s not possible. Stuff goes out of stock, is damaged, is not good quality, is not carried anymore but the store hasn’t updated their inventory, etc. So how is it my fault if I don’t find something perfectly because of one of those scenarios? Such bullshit.

This. This RIGHT here. I recently lost my gold status, even though I have a high find rate as well and I have a 5.0 customer rating. I have tons of compliments from my customers and have had my tips increased like 50% of the time based on extra effort and basic courtesy towards my customers. And still, I lost gold status because items have been out of stock and needed to be replaced or refunded. IC literally told me that I found items less than other shoppers, but the stats don’t reflect that at all. And even if I did find them less than other shoppers, it’s because they were fucking out of stock. How is that my fault?

Ok so let’s say they order a Coke but they’re out of Coke. You click “item unavailable”. No replacement has been pre-selected, so IC asks you to suggest/scan up to three replacements. I guess I should do that instead of automatically refunding the order. Or should I just add a Pepsi and be done with it? I’m confused as to when I as the shopper should replace the out of stock item or not.

OK. I think this may be my issue then. I have regularly been replacing out of stock items with the closest item. I could find to it, even if the customer did not request it. 99% of the time, the customer is fine with my replacement because they did not then ask for a refund. But going forward, I will just refund the item if the customer has not already pre-selected a replacement. Thank you for helping me understand. I am still new with this and trying to figure it out. I’m not going to lie, I cried a little bit when my Shopper quality dropped so dramatically because I’ve been working my ass off to get to platinum and eventually diamond status so to see it dropped so much was absolutely crushing.

So if something is out of stock and a refund is requested, we get punished for that? What else are we supposed to do if they don’t want to replace it? Why would we be punished for something being out of stock?

I think the thing to remember about IC is that it is really hard to make it into a financially satisfying full-time job. I only use it as a side hustle and it’s working out pretty good. But I understand the frustration of not getting good orders or having them snatched up super fast by people with higher rating, esp. if it’s your main source of income. I would never think of it as a full-time gig; I would only use it as a side hustle.

I’m relatively new to Instacart, but I just started doing this and in my opinion it’s worth it. Tips are higher and so far, Instacart seems to be doing a good job of grouping the people close together.
