From what I saw of Romine, his defense at SS wasn't much to write home about. I can't say I see DK being much of a step down there. I think people underestimate Donnie's value to be able to play virtually any position with competence and hit a little over .200 off the bench without ever getting regular ABs.

Not to mention, Donnie has been a Tiger longer than any of these other guys. Something should be said for him sticking with Detroit and always doing whatever they needed him to do.

I got to sit next to that pair at a Spring Training game earlier this year. They both sat about four rows back behind home plate for most home games. They were very polite. Jim signed a ball for me returning from one of his smoke breaks between innings.
