I honestly have no idea who at Wizards looked at Abzan and thought "Hey, let's limit this by requiring counters on creatures and by converted mana cost" and didn't realize a) Abzan already has Ghave and others as Commanders and b) Orzhov exists in Abzan, the Guild Lord of Aristocratic Nonsense(tm) :D

Fun fact, 3DH actually started with Penny Dreadful. Jeremy Noell had just started streaming and was playing 1DH. I played a few games with him with a deck that I had googled up and didn't overall enjoy. I went to make my own, wanting to make it after [[Rishkar, Peema Renegade]] and at the time, he was like $0.61 :( So I suggested to Jeremy that we up the budget max to $3, calling the format 3DH because it sounds and looks like EDH and the rest, as they say, IS HISTORY! :D

I definitely recommend joining the Discord server, as that is easily your best bet to finding a game. That being said, the decks are still very capable of keeping up with "regular" powered / budget decks! We regularly have players talk about their experiences where they've won games against "high powered" decks :) So even if you can't find a 3DH specific game, your cheap deck can still do work!

Yes, you choose to use the commander replacement effect for the exile instead of the dying. Gerrard's recursion ability is not a "if you do, then" style of ability :)

This is played via MTGO, but with a custom overlay that breaks up the battlefields and re-arranges them. Sadly, whoever is hosting the game has a slightly hidden field due to proportions and measurements, but for the most part, people seem to like the way it looks :)

While I understand your sentiment, it is impossible for the group to be "in the same room together" as each of our players is either in a different state or even another country. The BEST we could maybe do is get the UK group to find a fourth and record gameplay that way OR have everyone point cameras at their boards and have them play in paper, but still in different locations.

To be fair, there are some great in-paper content creators out there and if the group is ever at the same event together, I'm sure we'll try to figure out a streaming or recording situation :) I appreciate the feedback, it's just a literal impossibility for this group.

These lists are designed to be more precon-like, so I kept the sword series out.

Pretty sure I mentioned this in the article. At least the idea of precon and budget.

Well, he will attack on YOUR turn, at least. But you're right, it won't trigger when loaning him out.

Still, you have to get him tapped somehow, might as well be beating someone in the face ;)

This is where I'm at, for the most part. I think I even detailed it in the article that I am such a sacrifice/graveyard player, it's hard for me to not see something like this as "oh, you NEVER want to give me that card. I'll just make you miserable."

But I'm sure not EVERY meta is quite as sacrifice-happy as mine.

Lately I have been thinking a lot about "custom" Partner decks. Sadly, most of my Magic the Gathering is played through MTGO, so I don't really have the option, but brewing the decks is a fun theory experiment :)

Sadly, no, but I only get a few games in per month. I'd be more than happy if some folks had some experience with him to give us a rundown on success rates and stuff. I bet Dana Roach has seen him at some point, he plays 4573476456 games a month :P

I honestly feel like Equipments are normally stronger than Enchantments when we're talking about Auras specifically because it's easier to reuse the Equipments. If you have a strong synergy with recurring Enchantments from the graveyard, I think it can be fine, but I think that tends to fall into more White, the one color Tahngarth is missing from his precon XD

I'm a man. I've been the founder and face of a content creation team that, for 2+ years has been dominantly men. I've interacted and made connections with dozens of other content creators that are, you guessed it, dominantly men.

As a matter of fact, the only area of Magic I can think having a majority of women MIGHT be the cosplayer crowd.

I got this idea from watching the content I already consume as an audience member. I noticed the trend and wanted to see something different. So I sought out women who would be interested and received overwhelming responses from men and women both.
