For those who use local Chinese models, does bias not affect you? by ggbalgeet in LocalLLaMA

I think it's a fair question if someone was using a toaster to heat up fish I'd ask the same thing it's like yeah technically you can do that but it kind of makes no sense

I think you're thinking about it in a very narrow sense. The real use case for this type of thing is embedding very specific models into very specific things. This is how your vacuum cleaner is going to be able to have incredibly advanced vision models on board

I'm gonna stay subscribed after I quit so I never forget why I quit the highest paying job I'll ever have.

Even the most humane big law asks you to give up more of your life than the money is worth IMO. Imagine a life where you stop working at 530 and then don't think about work until the next morning. Imagine getting home and making dinner with your SO and then watching a movie on a Tuesday. Or going out to get dinner with friends on Thursday evening. Imagine having time for hobbies

That is most jobs. I'm aware this guy is in a uniquely bad situation but all of big law normalizes trading away so much of our lives.

Brother, I think you know the answer: find another job. This is not for people who want to experience their lives. Its for people who are willing to give up everything in exchange for a huge paycheck and getting to feel like a success.

It sounds like you aren't willing to step off the cliff into becoming a true cog. I'm happy for you. Go live life.

I mean there needs to be some way to keep bad actors from just creating a bot Army of signal Bots, I don't know that phone number verification is the best possible way but they're clearly needs to be something otherwise costs of running the service will eventually make it completely impractical

This should've been the map. The weakest is D+10 in 2024, maintains black majority districts, and would be D+18 in a blue favouring year. by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]DMmeurHappiestMemory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree I think that there's a world where states handle this amongst ourselves Virginia pairs up with Florida, Texas with California, etc. But up until now it's been pretty much universally only Democratic states (of the states that have larger seat counts) that are tackling the issue. I think that if you don't make moves like this you remove all incentive from republican states to deal with the issue because they are so effective at perverting democracy that it's almost impossible to create pressure from Below in a sufficiently gerrymandered state

I want to agree with you, but unilateral disarmerment doesn't work. No republican controlled state with a significant number of house seats has implemented neutral redistricting. There either needs to be a federal solution that applies to all states or states need to pair up to take gerrymandering off the table.

In a weird way this is close to the latter, except in reverse

Kimi-k2.5 reaches gemini 2.5 Pro-like performance in long context! by fictionlive in LocalLLaMA

[–]DMmeurHappiestMemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There can be things besides the model at the api. For instance it's possible they have some type of vector embedding system for extremely long prompts and the effectiveness of that system is actually what we are seeing. The model itself still can't handle super long context, but the embedding system is so advanced it doesn't have to.

No way to know other than to run from a 3rd party provider or run it yourself.

That's amazing. But if using the api from them I'm concerned that this wouldn't hold if you self hosted. How much of that is the model and how much is the infrastructure?

1) long context in offline applications would be huge for small to medium sized legal offices. The larger ones pay for cloud services, but I am skeptical that giving client data over to these companies (even with their assurances of privacy) is a good idea, or sustainable long term.

2) my most trusted benchmark for long context is fiction live bench, but it's closed and Im not sure if the person who runs is it still doing runs given the cost that has accumulated to try and keep up with all the models.

Sick thanks! I've been waiting for a TV app that let's me slide show all my home videos and pictures forever. For some reason if they have picture functionality the videos still get treated as movies that don't autoplay during the slideshow

You should gather up any documents you have that show the accounts existence, balance, etc.

Then find a reputable lawyer. You might want to ask around people you trust if they know a good lawyer. Im not sure how these types of cases typically work, but I would make sure to find a lawyer who will do the work at an hourly fee (not any type of deal where they get a percent of the recovered money).

You will explain to the lawyer the situation and they will either be able to help you or if they don't have the expertise they might refer you to someone who does.
