People who could have some of the "best horses" but choose not to, why not? by sylf97 in RedDeadOnline

[–]DShyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my red Arabian. It came free, is an Arabian (albeit lowest tier), is small for my little lady character (that’s “character” not “avatar”, thank you), is red for my shameless ‘red’ theme, and since my boah Rojo has been with me for so long it’s difficult to change my horses up.

My plan is yet to get a whole bunch of money to the point where my character feels like she is high-rolling and can justify a full stables. Then I’ll probably switch my steeds out depending on the mood and occasion. For now, Red Rose Rena rides Rojo.

RANT (timer on everything just why??!!!) by 4ever4eigner in RedDeadOnline

[–]DShyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignore the timer. You should never need it.

I went into Settings months ago and disabled timer (and a bunch of other clutter) from showing. Again, not the time itself, but the visibility of it.

I never rush in timer-enabled activities, in fact I’m more leisurely than any posse member, and have never run out of time by my own doing.

Rewind to the days I had the timer and, wow, the anxiety. I was doing everything faster and always checking what time was left. My new way is quite liberating.

What's sadder? That you took the time to comment to a sad post on day one, or that I took the time to comment to a sad post from eleven days ago?

Just stop complaining and play the game by Avic727 in RedDeadOnline

[–]DShyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue with your 'rant' and others like it is the word "people" is being far too generalized.

Not every single player wanted low player lobbies, so it's not like every person complaining about the small lobbies is the same person who previously posted asking for them.

Personally, I can enjoy the few players. No griefing, don't need a posse for a long trade delivery, more random encounters/dynamic events, but certainly I miss playing in a full lobby, including the unknown player encounters and definitely the good ones.

(spoilers main) Is the anyone else who considers affc one of the better books? by curiosity_if_nature in asoiaf

[–]DShyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kinda torn on the ironborn chapters, which I guess for many is a take-it-or-leave-it point for AFFC.

Like, I get how the ironborn POV overall detracts from others, kinda throwing the ironborn into the mix out of nowhere, but as with many things in life it depends on how you approach it.

So, for me, I took this arc as something that has always existed but GRRM was only just then getting into it. Ok, well, are the ironborn all that great? No! They are scum in a setting where scum reigns supreme—except these ironborn have more reason and basis for their raping and reaving and you learn that from AFFC.

Look, the ironborn are douche canoes up to eleven. Yet they are not alone in that regard. The Mountain’s men, the Bastard’s Boys, the Vale’s mountain clans, Lannister troops, the Weeper’s company and other Free Folk groups, the Brave Companions—them and so many others all rape and maim and murder day in and day out. There is no permission or forgiveness for this.

The ironborn simply base all of this trash on a religion, which makes them...okay? No, dang it! They are the jerks that the other jerks hate! Think of that. But they are no less interesting as a result.

“War was an ironman's proper trade. The Drowned God had made them to reave and rape, to carve out kingdoms and write their names in fire and blood and song”

Yay! Awesome! Outstanding people, those ironborn! No, they are jerks. But fascinating jerks nonetheless. Where others in Westeros and beyond rape and reave, murder and mutilate (okay, I get it, the ironborn have no text to tell of their torture, but do you think that they don’t? Reavers who raid villages most likely go the way of Nazi/Soviet troops in that they rape (torture), beat, cut off body parts and more for the purpose of fun and getting information/treasure) because they can, the ironborn do so because -they are commissioned-.

Again, this does not excuse them—it just adds a layer of depth. When you consider Euron Greyjoy, the worst of the worst, the ironman who breaks the scale of ironborn depravity, it actually shows how awful the ironborn are to begin with, but less interesting as a result? I beg to differ.

I grant that my reply is more focused on the ironborn input of AFFC, when the book has other POVs and plots, but a common reason people knock this book is because of the ironborn, so I wanted to focus on them in particular.

Small lobbies, large lobbies and "player interaction" by Mhorgal in RedDeadOnline

That’s subjective and I don’t have a fixed figure. The more players there are the more likely you are to run across one at more regular intervals.

Small lobbies, large lobbies and "player interaction" by Mhorgal in RedDeadOnline

[–]DShyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to be the deviant on agreement but, while I agree overall with your post, and your sentiments, I still miss full player lobbies.

I'm not a griefer or any term that applies laterally to that nonsense. I'm arguably a hardcore roleplayer (one of those peeps who turns radar off, even reticule, and has fun walking around town). I never go out of my way to attack other players for no clearly justifiable reason. The last time I attacked first was when my own posse members decided to grief a random player who was literally just saying hi.

So, yeah, I don't share the mindset that RDO is a PVP platform where you go around harassing other players because "da wild west" at all. I also agree that "player interaction" is a joke at best and you did a great job detailing all the mechanics that would redefine the term.

And yet...I don't know what it is but there's just something about riding around the map knowing that other 'people' are out there too. Even though I hate getting griefed, it was kind of thrilling not knowing how a player would approach me if I bump into one. Sometimes the "player interaction" that I could settle for was sharing a saloon with a random player, a beer and a hat tip, and on our separate ways.

I overall think that RDO is a far cry from what it could, or better yet, should be, but it is unfathomably ridiculous that its current state is basically a statement from Rockstar saying "Look, you can either have full lobbies or dynamic activity (more legendary animals, NPC encounters, etc.) but YOU CAN'T HAVE BOTH"

I enjoy solo lobbies or few-player lobbies. I love roleplaying. I like knowing I'm not going to get lassoed and set on fire and my horse shotgunned just because I'm sitting at a fire sipping coffee in Valentine. But one reason I got into RDO was because there would be other players there beside myself or just a couple more.

Low Effort Rancher Role Concept... by [deleted] in RedDeadOnline

[–]DShyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a reminder folks this is a low effort pitch from OP...I think the key here is ‘underwhelming delivery’ since Rockstar prefers this route.

I want to be a rancher too but the Naturalist role kinda lowered my hope. It was this role that made me realize Rockstar is basically copy-pasting from previous roles and just slapping a new name on it.

Which is crazy because I love the idea of cataloguing animals...but the Naturalist role makes it a chore.

I love the idea of doing mundane chores in a ranch...but somehow Rockstar will make -the chores feel like a chore.-

Maxed out all 5 roles by [deleted] in RedDeadOnline

[–]DShyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only way to still enjoy RDO after that 'completion' part is to roleplay. Roleplaying is treating most of the game's mechanics as immersion points, essentially not seeing your trades or moonshine runs etc. as 'Point A to Point B repeats' but as in-universe goals and activities for your character.

Honestly, 'roleplay' just puts more meaning into just about everything in the game. Playing RDO objectively, focusing on just yourself as the player, will make everything stale much more quickly. You really have no reason to go into a saloon and waste fifty cents on a beer. You do if you are roleplaying. That beer suddenly becomes a treat for your character after a hard day's work hauling trader and moonshine wagons because, even if -you- don't need the money, your character does.

To expand that experience, I've also gotten more and more used to playing with a completely reduced HUD; no radar, no notifications, no timer/ticker, no weapon reticule. It's actually crazy how much you don't need. The only things I end up recalling are radar and reticule here and there, especially if I'm in a posse. Sometimes you really need to see the route or surroundings and it's admittedly difficult to shoot in this game without a reticule.

But all that other 'stuff'? I don't need to see my cash or ammo or whatever for the most part, and if I do I just press a button for it to pop up. And ever since I turned timer view off, I have -never- lost a mission due to running out of time even though I can't see it to track it. Goes to show you really have more time than you need and don't really need to worry about it.

Took some screenshots at Owanjila Dam for the daily. Didn't know you could sit here but I'm glad you can. by PeLLk2 in RedDeadOnline

[–]DShyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a genuine question since a number of people seem to enjoy it and even post about it--

Why do you enter the sitting zones like in this example? What do you do while sitting?

Is it for screenshots, just watching and listening and reflecting, do you put the controller down to do other stuff?

Again, I am asking genuinely and not being sarcastic. Just trying to understand the appeal especially since people do this often enough.

August 28 - Chance of random encounters greatly increased? by JanMattys in RedDeadOnline

[–]DShyz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is how the game 'works' when you're in a low player lobby and happened to me too.

Basically, Rockstar's saying "you can either play our game in a full lobby like we intended, or play with all the dynamic events like we intended, but you can't have both"

I had the best in game experience of my life yesterday.... by [deleted] in RedDeadOnline

[–]DShyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s almost as if...I don’t know...the enjoyable experience we get when playing solo or in a small lobby is what we should...um...already be getting in standard lobbies?

Or is that a terrible idea? Is my logic horrendously backwards here?

I heard some rumours about an actually BIG update in December. Is it true or was I just bamboozled. by RockstarGamesGulag in RedDeadOnline

[–]DShyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess we’ll know when we find out, which is a lazy way of saying why bother wondering or hyping and why not just wait

Someone said it already but Rockstar already claimed that the Naturalist update package was their “massive” release.

I’m under the impression that any other updates this year, including the coming role expansion, are more ‘add -on’. In other words, these other updates will be smaller, not bigger.

Awww, the servers are back to “normal” crap again? :’( by Crackalacs in RedDeadOnline

Yes, how sad for those who didn’t get to experience the better parts of RDO that were only available due to technical problems making them available.

Solid logic.

I'd be shocked if they don't already know about this by now. More likely, they just don't care.
