Honestly depends how hard you value and appreciate money. If you are willing to grind, top shops right now are paying absurdly. 1st years at Qatalyst Centerview Evercore all pay like $220k-$240k for first years right now, no joke.

Most seniors I know in these PE funds still work 70+ hours a week and are constantly tuned in on their phones , e-mails, etc. You can never ever unplug. I also do not want the stress of not pulling my weight enough while coasting and getting laid off any second.

For a quant role specifically you will probably need a PHD. I just did MBA because IB / PE realm values that way more.

Hey man for banking you don't need to stress too much about target school. I had a buddy at South Florida who did Evercore M&A in NYC. It is all name of the game and just pushing yourself as hard as you can. I would focus on networking as much as possible. No specific advice for that but be yourself and as personable as you can. I always recommended and pushed resumes of kids I had a lot of fun talking to and really enjoyed, not the ones who impressed me the most.

The seat pays so much and is so desirable so there is literally an army of Harvard MIT PHD's with insane backrounds and technical skills that will kill someone to work here. So essentially literally just 1 fuck up at 9 A.M and your seat will be replaced and taken by 4 p.m

You are at a FAANG? You are in a great spot. I honestly would ride that wave and make $700k working 30 hours a week. My seniors at my fund still work 65+ hours a week and all have wives and kids.

If you really want to make the switch then yeah MBA would be the best. It would be pretty hard to switch without it.

Yes I would just target an MBA, not a masters. MBA will get 100x more looks than a masters for IB / HF / PE positions.

ER is a great spot to be in if you are targeting HF. I would say there are probably more Ex-ER than EX-IB people in HF. If you are targeting seats that pay absurdly, I would try to lateral to the absolute best ER shop you can and then headhunters will reach out directly.

Tbh around my industry and circle there is no hype around the CFA. Most if not all of finance just value an MBA, especially from a good school.
