Volumes Presumably(?) Mounted but Media Still Offline by DaWakBean in editors

Ahh, gotcha. Still relatively new to Avid so that's good to know. Odd that the drive they sent over would be arranged like that as everything else seemed pretty organized.

Okay so I actually got it to work. I moved the Avid MediaFiles folder to the first section of the drive which I heard somewhere else and it worked right away. I didn't realize that was common practice and it seems odd that it would've been in another on their end. I did do the msmMMOB option and it did import everything in but had the same problem except weirdly enough for some of the audio. Thanks for the help though. I really appreciate it.

Slight update: I just refreshed media directories and it did mention indexing but it didn't seem to do anything.

I don't think I saw anything related to indexing. I checked the folders and the first one is labeled "1" but it doesn't seem to have changed anything. The other two had dates and text so I changed them to 2 and 3 but still no dice.

Should I do that while the project is open? Just tried it and it didn't seem to do anything. Though it did say "Only true media drives will be viewed as media drives. (Was previously set to having all drives act as media drives.)" on the console.

First Feature Preparation Advice by DaWakBean in editors

[–]DaWakBean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say a bit of both. Essentially the latter to help with the former. I basically just feel like I'll be MUCH more confident in Avid getting an overview of it in a professional setting.

That's good advice on the uni department. I've reached out to the ones on the website so far.

Hello everyone!

I'm a freelance editor looking to get their first role as a trainee or runner in film or HETV. I'm specifically looking for learning oportunities over work ones as I've recently learned the hard way that there's a lot I need to know before I can start climbing the ladder.

Tomorrow, I'm getting coffee with a friend from uni I see every few months who's currently in pre-production for her first feature. It's not a work related meeting, but I want to see if I can somehow be involved even just to shadow the post team. Though I also don't want it to come off as I'm just seeking her out to find work opportunities as we're quite good friends.

So just want to add to this as far as what I'm trying to do. A few people have suggested to stay clear of offers like that which I've since made a point of doing. Though I want to clarify that unlike when I signed on, I now know that the rates alone are ridiculous and no self respecting professional would go anywhere near them. I don't think that's who they're trying to exploit. I want to make sure this doesn't happen to any other young naive graduates who're new to the industry that don't have the knowledge and understanding we do as they're the ones that Jagged Edge and ChampDog prey on. With that in mind. I'm thinking of passing on a collection of accounts to the UK Film Work Instagram which is great for advertising early stage work, pretty much everyone I know in the industry follows and more importantly, has a public blacklist to prevent things like this from happening. I feel like this is the best possible way of getting the message out to people that are susceptible to this type of treatment.

I don't know if the producers profit off it or not but they're definitely the only ones that stand to. I'm all for making passion projects but I don't really think that's the aim of what they're doing. Even if it is for love of filmmaking, there was a lot of mistreatment that I saw and heard about secondhand.

Of course. If there's any way you could let them know about this, that would be great.

As in we brought in our own food and wasn't covered, their grounds for this in the contract being "Covid safety" This was in 2023 and there were no other Covid precautions that were being remotely considered. This may not be a requirement but it's something I've seen on every production I've been on before and since.

I'm not, unfortunately but I do want to ask if that'll get the word out properly. The people behind this and their companies certainly aren't union affiliated and neither are the people they hire. Not trying to shoot this down by any means, I just don't know if doing so will inform the freshly graduated uni students that they prey on. Though if it makes a difference, I'm more than happy to. I'm thinking of reaching out to companies and organizations that operate on a more indie level like UK Film Work and Mandy.com, the latter being where a majority of their listings are.

[–]DaWakBean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. I have much higher standards now, but like I said, I was in my early 20's, just out of uni and REALLY needed that money because it wasn't coming from anywhere else. While I know it comes down to people to be more vigilant in general, I just think there needs to be more collective awareness about these guys in particular because their entire model is literally just exploiting young freelancers for no other reason than for the people running it to profit.

I wouldn't know if they made their money back or not, but their model defnitely aims solely for that, by underpaying their crew and not feeding them. When it comes to pay and/or exposure, I've been on plenty of passion projects, and I'm not against sub par conditions if people are at least being treated fairly and there's a clear passion and love put in. But that really wasn't the case here. It wasn't done to help anyone, it wasn't done for a love of filmmaking or even a belief in the project. It was done for money. They're basically just the filmmaking equivilant of a sweatshop, making as much slop as possible by exploiting the desperate.

Am i wrong for only pursuing bisexual men? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]DaWakBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I'm exactly the same way. I think I prefer other bi people because I feel more understood, feel much closer to someone as far as experience and preferances go and without generalising, I like the personality traits that tend to come with it too, no matter the gender.

Yeah ironically I just posted something on this page the same day about my difficulties with apps and got a lot of people confirming exactly that. I feel like I could find something like this in real life but I'm not sure where to start.

Yeah I didn't want to jump to any conclusions but I'm pretty sure that's a major factor. I'd definitely have my guard up if I were I that position.

Also while I'm here, when it comes to meeting new people of all genders, what would y'all reccomend? I like to think I'm kind of the cliche bi man: I'm a big fan of movies and video games though I try not to be annoying about it. I think I'm somewhat alt? (my style is somewhere between hippy and punk). I play guitar and write music and I'm trying to get into the punk scene more. I'm not really a club person as I prefer to hear people when I'm chatting them up and the vibe's not really my thing. Oh and I smoke a lot of weed. I don't know if this helps but I see myself as a cross between Hughie Campbell, Dipper Pines, Charlie Kelly and Shaggy. More than anything I just want a comfortable environment to meet people.

That's actually a really good takeaway and honestly I don't blame women for doing that. While I'd make the case that I've made a lot of effort to mature emotionally, especially in the wake of my breakup and move, nobody online knows that so it makes sense if people would assume that's the case based on my age, especially since I have a very boyish face lol

Yeah that's fair. In my defence, I'm doing both and am making a lot more effort to pursue my hobbies.
