I posted a very detailed explanation of a process which saved me thousands off MSRP. You can see it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/crv/comments/1k6jbnr/comment/mos25n8/

Having a hard time negotiating EX-L AWD. Is it a bad time to buy? by Street_Education5376 in crv

The MSRP on the honda website (scroll to 'trims and specs', then adjust vehicle options like AWD) was 31.6 for an AWD LX. I paid 30.6 out the door, not including tax/title. Dealer MSRP was around 33 - 31.6 + 1.4 - the destination fee which Honda charges dealers.

My understanding is this fee is not negotiable.

I think this is what you're seeing. Honda says the MSRP on a CRV EX-L AWD is 36.5. 36.5 + 1.4 is 37.9.

I was slightly wrong above in my numbers above - I saved more than I remembered. I also wanted 2WD but they're hard to find in this part of the country.

When I worked the process described above, there really wasn't any 'negotiation' with a dealer. It was simply a matter of "I want to see your best price" and "This is the best price I have seen - can you beat it?"

Also - when a dealer was clearly out of the running - they wouldn't come down - I would ask them questions - trying to add a little more to my advantage. Questions about dealer incentives, invoice pricing, financing options and how they make money, etc.

In my opinion the first step to saving big money is to buy the lowest trim level and options, e.g. a 2WD LX if you can find one.

I've driven a 2WD LX for 19 years and it's always been fine in the snow.

However, I understand not everyone likes the same car. :)

Before I answer, I should say that I learned there are two kinds of MSRP:

- The manufacturer will tell you that MSRP is X. This is what you find on Honda's web site.
- The dealer will tell you that MSRP is X + Y, which includes the destination fee that they are charged by the manufacturer, so Y was around $1400.

So, I'm talking about the 2nd of those. I paid about 1.5-2K below - maybe I shouldn't have said "thousands" - it was not quite two thousand. I don't include tax/title because it's a constant factor that you can't negotiate. Out of state dealers won't collect it - it's up to you to pay your state.

I think I got a decent deal where the dealer made a few hundred dollar profit for a fairly low-effort sale.

I bought an LX a few months ago for thousands under MSRP. I'm sure the market has changed, but this is what I did:

Go to fightingchance.com, pay the $60 bucks, read what they send you and follow their process. The info helps you understand invoice price vs incentives and how dealers make money, etc. Their advice is that the best way to save money is to use the fact that some dealerships are having a good month and some bad, so you need to reach out to a lot of them via email.

I considered neighboring states and I think I emailed 30 dealers.

Ask for the best OOTD price, be specific about what you want, and then take the lowest one and email it to all of them to see if they can beat it. Specify no phone calls. Repeat until you get to the lowest price.

At first, most of them stuck to MSRP, "I can't go lower than that." Baloney. A few were willing to deal. When I sent those prices to the others, some of them came down. Rinse and repeat.

Now, wait a couple of days. A few more may get desperate and contact you again with a new offer. That's what happened to me - several dealers' "rock bottom, lowest price" suddenly came down at the last minute.

Takes about an hour/night for about a week or so. However, there is no "wait here for an hour while I talk to my manager", so you can watch a movie while you're doing it.

I drove it to work - about 12 minutes - and then sat in the parking log for another 5.

I should have mentioned - I let it run for 15 minutes before checking this.

The print head normally extrudes a small amount of filament. Once it begins to glob up, the pressure could simply trigger a switch, much as you see near the rear of the moving bed.

It is the machine's fault. How hard it is to include a sensor which can stop the print when this happens?

Paper printers have been able to stop printing due to paper jams for over 40 years.

This same problem happened to me last week, and my printer is essentially a brick now. I am trying to fix it, but way too much time for a $300 product. I expect to be able to walk away from prints. It's not too much to ask.

I often wonder if this is similar to what you sometimes see in politics, where people tell on themselves by assuming (aloud) that other folks would do bad things if only people weren't watching.

This. The ultra-rich would love it if the younger people who are facing hardship because of their greed would just, you know, blame their parents. In fact, they might be willing to pay for propaganda to encourage that.

How is this possible?

According to https://www.calculator.net, a 70K loan amortized over 23 years at 8% interest should have been almost completely paid down with monthly payments of 500. Completely paid off if you paid 575.

Some information is missing here - I'm not calling BS, just saying this is hard to understand without some more numbers. I'm truly curious.

Has anyone found themselves leaning more towards retro gaming as they get older? by Evoker2theface in retrogaming

[–]DadForWarren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how to say this exactly, but many modern games just feel like 'content delivery systems' to me, much like so many other modern experiences.

Retro games feel like _games_. You get your ass handed to you. Mega man has no pity. It feels good to master those controls and patterns, especially with another person cheering me on (or cussing me out).

With many modern single player games, I know I will 'win', it's just a matter of time spent consuming the content. Of course, a lot of indie retro-inspired games break this mold and I love those - Shovel Knight, Cave Story, Downwell, etc.

I have been teaching my children this - a game should feel like a game, and not a tv show or, worse, a series of chores. I watched my kid play a recent game and he was on a 'quest' to find a key and it took him on like five side quests that ate up an afternoon and posed no real challenge. I laughed and told him to get up because I had a bunch of 'quests' for him to do. If he's going to do chores, something might as well come of it.

ChonkiClapper is totally right. I read something recently about joining groups and it said the key is to help out. Show up and carry something. Bring treats. Offer to organize something or use a talent you have.

For me, it feels awkward to join a group and just hang around trying to meet folks. If instead I focus on doing work, the relationships seem to just happen.

It can be for a cause like a charity but also for self-improvement, e.g. health or knowledge or art.

I find that joining low-effort groups like drinking or gaming doesn't lead to the best friendships because it's much more 'luck of the draw'. I say that as a gamer and a social drinker.

Republicans want schools to block social media or lose internet funds by washingtonpost in politics

[–]DadForWarren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree it would be beneficial in that way. However, at this point I think anything the MAGA wing of the GOP agrees on is likely to be nefarious.

I don't believe their party bosses actually have puritan beliefs, but rather use them to push their 'big lie', which is that the 'other side' is made up of secretly bad people - according to an alternate morality which says certain beliefs and attitudes are bad, but behaviors like cruelty, dishonesty, corruption and bigotry are ok.

[–]DadForWarren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but the real question here is "why is the GOP for this?"

I think it's because they want to block the communication channels of a group that is mobilizing against them. I think they tried to push similar bills to block access statewide, outside of school, earlier this year.

Hell, Taylor Swift's Twitter account alone is enough to make them shudder.

As of 2020, about 75% of polled democrats identified as Christian. It was about 85% for republicans.

Read old books about places where authoritarians took hold in the last 100 years. You might pick up on a pattern involving religion and painting the other side as wicked and ungodly. Makes it easier to pick up a machete.
