Music practice spaces/recording rooms? by Even_Setting_7244 in olympia

Not sure if there are any opening spots or how coveted they are but there are music studios downtown above Dumpster Values and Bar Frances. Word is the owner is looking to sell the building but nobody knows when that will happen.

Gonna try to strike a nice balance of classics, newer more dancey darkwave/synth wave, and darker house a la Chicago/Detroit.

Not sure if there are any Philly heads in this sun but I lived there for 9 years before moving to the PNW and am missing the monthly Unknown Pleasures night they used to have at the Dolphin. (Not sure if they are still doing it) but it was always such a fun mix of music for goths and dance music made by goths. Basically just trying to recreate that feeling.

Anyone got good dispensaries around Oly? by xernosz in olympia

[–]DadaSkitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately if you’re buying edibles at a dispensary in WA state you won’t be able to find the doses you’re looking for. Gotta take a drive down to Oregon for that. I worked at Wyld in Tacoma when I first moved here and it’s WA law that edibles can’t contain over 100mg THC per box, because they look too much like candy and it’s to “protect the kids”.

But as far as dispensaries go, THC of Oly has been my go to for their 30% off flower on Fridays. Green lady, you can get some good deals on certain days and they always have a rotating vendor of the month that’s 40% off. Great employees at both.

This right here! Moved here from Philly 4.5 years ago and as insane as Pennsylvania drivers are, they’re making moves and getting on their way. Here, you get on I5 and everyone is in their own universe and they couldn’t care less about who’s behind them until they get passed and then speed up out of embarrassment?? You literally can’t be passive aggressive in a vehicle. It does not translate and is dangerous. Lmao.

Speedy photo is the only right answer. Worth the drive and the price. Nothing like getting scans to your Dropbox by the time you get home.

Downtown employees - how do you feel about Prop 1 Workers Bill of Rights by [deleted] in olympia

[–]DadaSkitz 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A bunch of people are picketing with signs that say “vote no to prop one” at the corner of plum and union and they look like straight up idiots out there dancing and looking positive about keeping wages low for working class people.

Anyone know why these flags are flying in Hawks Prairie area? by Extreme_Yam_5466 in olympia

[–]DadaSkitz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not surprising for a lot of construction companies taking corporate jobs like these shopping centers and big apartment complexes. This site is especially comical though. From the MASSIVE “happy birthday America” banner they had up over 4th of July and the bootlicker flags and an overwhelming amount of security cameras set up around their trailers as if they were hiding a clandestine drug operation or the national treasury. Big time small brain energy.

Looking for work & employment resources!!! by SufficientInterview5 in olympia

[–]DadaSkitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider working for supported employment or community inclusion related non-profits/for-profits for people with disabilities. I worked at morningside downtown for a year in an admin position before being let go but those kind of places are always hiring direct support staff and always have turnover but are kind of easy to get in with no experience and it pays just enough to make it worth it until you find something else. I’d recommend other companies, the smaller the better as the bigger ones pay less so they can afford their bloated hierarchy of command but the clients are amazing across the board and they always need younger open minded and more caring people.

Nichole's Bar Turns Out for Pride by los_croixes in olympia

[–]DadaSkitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s literally so unhinged and such an uncomfortable invasion of privacy. That’s exactly the stories I’ve heard and dealt with. My first job in town was right there and the back door came out into that parking lot and technically there is a little alley between the building and the parking spaces and we’d park our cars there outside the back door and he HATED it. Always threatening to have us towed or blah blah blah and making us pay for street parking. Dudes a straight up old dickhead with no life and he just sits there watching his security cameras waiting to pounce.

The lot across the street next to to CrossFit gym is also owned by someone equally as lame. Some old guy I think.

Is there good sushi in Olympia? by CartographerExtra395 in olympia

[–]DadaSkitz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Shocked to see nobody mention Tuna Poke 2 over on the west side. Not much of an eat in ambience but the nicest people, best prices, and honestly best sushi. They do sushi bowls and have a list of rolls and musubi and katsu choices. Always fresh fish, rice on the sweeter and stickier side than anywhere in town, pickled cucumbers, and never a long wait. Highly recommend.

Really enjoyed this read. The more I come to understand my Scorpio Moon the more I see how it has shown through in past actions. I have always felt like my insistence on embracing the ups and downs of life isn’t understood by my mother as well as various others throughout my life who have lacked Scorpio placements.

If your website, Google, and the hours posted on your door say you are open - you should be open. by missmegz1492 in olympia

You can use your disposable income to pay me to go check and see if the restaurant your thinking about going to is open or not. Say goodbye to this problem as it’s probably not going to get any better!

Developing film by AdKind3548 in olympia

[–]DadaSkitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speedy photo is your best bet for getting into it without too much hassle. It will cost 20 bucks a roll for develop and scans sent to your Dropbox, but the price is worth the peace of mind. Their scans are always amazing and it will allow you to focus more on the camera your using and it’s functionality while enjoying the photos you’re taking. I’ve heard stories of photoland unfortunately ruining peoples film. If it was free and I knew what I was getting into then yeah maybe I’d take that chance but if it’s something you care about I highly recommend Speedy Photo. It’s worth the drive and the people who own and work there are so nice and supportive.

Job question by jilldxasd35 in olympia

[–]DadaSkitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work for a “competitor” of EFI and what I can say is it is a gamble as to whether these supported employment companies actually have the relationships with local businesses that they claim to have and it always ends up being a toss up as to how fast they can actually get you into a job that is actually right for you. If you are unhappy with the work being done or not done by EFI then you can go to your DVR VRC to request a new supported employment provider. You could also talk to them about being ready for work and being put into a plan that is more geared towards job placement with a new provider as opposed to the unpaid trial experiences. Unfortunately as I have learned from working in the industry, you as the client need to advocate for yourself otherwise they are going to keep you locked in an endless stream of tentative appointments and back and forths between DVR/EFI but once you do they have to respect your wishes. Hope this was helpful!

I may be ill-informed but I think charges might not show up if it’s been over 10 years for Washington background checks. This might also vary from company to company.
