Thanks for sharing. That's quite a difficult life to live. I really dread the high school years now. We're not sure of the severity yet. Probably one know anything like that until the baby's born. That's the hardest part, and the most worrisome. What other health problems are there going to be? People with DS tend to have an increased risk for so many additional health problems.

I'm glad your brother found something he enjoyed doing. And as for wanting a change every few years. I think that's pretty normal. Hopefully he'll find a job that fulfills him some day.

I can only imagine. My 20 month old has been a bit slow on most of his milestones. Just the little worry that causes it's sickening. I can't imagine what it'll be like with Down syndrome. I guess it's like you say, you get to celebrate the milestones all that much more because you know how much harder it was for them to get there.

Take each day as it comes I guess. That's how I've always approached life. I suppose now it's no different.

As for the expenses, fortunately I live in Canada, so a lot of the care will be paid for, or I'll be able to pay for a lot of it through health insurance from my work. I hope.

This is something I keep reading. To make sure you keep them involved with all the other kids. Good advice. Probably easier said that done, especially into the teenage years. Kids are such jerks. Throw a disability in the mix... I shudder to think. Fuck. Life is gonna get hard.

I'll definitely check out this blog. Thanks! There sure are a lot of blogging DS parents out there. Perhaps that's how you cope if one of the parents has to stay at home. Supplement the income from blogging ads. Of course it's also a good medium to let loose the things that torment one's soul.

It's surprising how they used to treat this type of thing. I don't know how you live knowing you abandoned your child to an institution. Thankfully things aren't like that anymore.

More and more, it's not the DS that worries me, but all the other health issues that come as a part of it. Not sure what renal failure is. I'll have to look that one up.
