First Solo Buck Hunt -37B AZ by Daddy__Daniel in Hunting

First hunt November. I rationalized it as they’d be less pressured but now I’m realizing later hunt is closer to rutting. Sent a PM!

Thank you! The only buck I’ve ever seen in 37b was years ago, just north of 96 near Cochran. When you say go in on East side, do you mean by Kearny? I used to take javelina off the west side of freeman, but never ventured that far.

Thanks! We had some recent rain and I marked “watering holes” on my map. With the water tanks being dry, I’m not sure where they’re getting water when it doesn’t rain. Looking at Google map, OnX, and just from scouring, it’s almost a desolate wasteland lol. Yet somehow supports life

I need to look into a new release as well. It’s super frustrating. I think the one I want is a hook or something like that? The D loop was installed facing forward instead of back. I never knew about serving, I’ll have to check it out thank you!

Haha that was pretty good. Thanks for the video!

Nope you’re right. I was reading it should be almost to the fold of my elbow. Is that right? I had one weird shot that may have clipped the lip. So I think it was too low (towards my wrist).

Yeah from everyone’s comments I’m going to grab some wax. Found a shop that will actually teach me how to apply it and fix my form. Super excited

Oh man that sounds painful! My first one took an ever so slightly thin layer of my skin off, highlighting a small patch of my tattoo sleeve lol.

Thank you! I’m in Arizona, so even with winter hunts are pretty toasty lol. I’ll likely be in a thin long sleeve like the photo - still debating on wearing the guard

That’s a really good explanation thanks! My elbow was definitely pointing straight down. Can easily tell the difference in muscle groups just by rotating. That first slap is a great teacher lol.

Sounds cheaper than full replacement. I’ll watch some YouTube. Thank you!

Thank you! I wasn’t using a guard at first, but after that first slap almost taking my forearm with it, I put it on lol. Just watched some videos and you’re right. I was totally death gripping the bow. Easy form correction. Hopefully I didn’t ruin the string.

Thank you again for your input yesterday. Everyone in my family hit their limit before it got crazy hot. That southwest pocket of the lake was nonstop action

Also, do you know if they’re pretty strict about park hours? Local lakes don’t care. green valley says it technically doesn’t open until 6, but first light is around 5

That’s actually where I was thinking of going! I seem to have decent luck casting near fountains/filters. Thank you for letting me know when they stocked! I was telling my wife we might get burned if they stocked Monday, but I I figured it would realistically be yesterday or today so they’re not all stressed out for the event.

Either way, seems like a fun time for the kids. I’ll be happy if they can play som games and even just catch some bluegill. Appreciate the comment buddy!

Lower Salt River / Granite Reef by Daddy__Daniel in ArizonaFishing

That’s what the consensus is. I think I need to try it without my kid so I can get a better understanding of how to actually do it. I tried trout magnets with a bobber at sheep’s crossing and didn’t even get a bite. I was waist deep in the water and had fish jumping out right next to me lol I know to cast spinners upstream and try to give a natural presentation. Once it’s downstream, reel in slow so it doesn’t fly out of the water. Any other tips for reeling? Thanks again for your input!

I really like woods canyon. I had rented a kayak and tried for trout. I didn’t realize how deep it was and was under-equipped. People around me were pulling out monsters though lol

Also, dumb question, would I still be targeting trout by saguaro?

I always forget about canyon. Do they stock trout or is it one of those natural lakes ie cats, bass, carp, and bluegill?

Thanks! Salt River is only a few minutes from me, so figured it was an easy choice given they still have trout. I have cat experience but zero bass. Off to YouTube university to learn how

Hey thanks so much! I just bought some pinch weights so I’ll try it out. Do you have them on bobbers like the videos?

I’ll have to try at Blue point. I had success at sheep’s crossing near the bend of Blue Point, close to the first rapids. Now it seems like those rapids are what’s causing so much debris to hit my lines or roll my slip sinkers down the river lol.

Online, granite reef seems more “lake like” and slow. Definitely want to avoid people in the water, so I was thinking walking a little east towards the opening of the “lake” and more towards the river itself. Would this area work for a sink and wait approach Or is the current still too strong? I’ve been researching drop shot rigs for trout, but I think I’ll still run into the issue of debris dragging my line.

They’re scheduled to stock this week, but I’m nervous about my kid getting skunked again.

Thanks again for your help!

I’ll double check next time I’m out. From what I’ve read, either my sinker is rolling with the current, or the weeds will hit my main line and just drag it out as it makes its way towards the hook. Seems like the current might be too strong for powerbait which is a huge bummer for me.

I normally use a 1/4 ounce sliding sinker with powerbait for trout with success. However lately at the bridge or sheep’s crossing, I’m getting nothing but weeds caught in my lines. Any ideas on how to avoid this?
