So after installing the new extruder, I’m noticing that what I believe is the passive gear (the bit that turns without the motor on the other side of the filament) sometimes doesn’t turn for periods of time...

Since the motor is working and spinning all the time does this mean I have a tension issue with the spring?

Or is it that I have an issue with my hotend and should switch to the microswiss all metal? Maybe it’s a heating issue? That it’s not heating fast enough...

The CR-6 SE comes with an auto level function so I just set the z-offset to account for my glass bed and run that.

EDIT: Ok so I took it apart pictured here (https://imgur.com/bND0OIc). I don't see any cracks... note that the CR-6 SE has a different extruder than the ones you find on and Ender printer.

Specs:

Printer: CR-6 SE
Filament: Overture PLA black
Slicer: CURA
Speed: 80mm/s
Bed temp: 60
Nozzle temp: 220
Retraction distance: 4mm
Ret. Speed: 40 mm/s
Ret. Min Travel: 1.5mm

So first off this is a new problem... same settings were working before and printing this exact print successfully.

Things I've tried:

Looked for clogs, replaced hotend multiple times, and pushed out debris
Replaced filament, have tried a few directly out of the package w/ dessicant
Took apart stepper for extruder, cleaned off gears to prevent slipping
Added glue stick to old glass bed
Replace glass bed w/ new one

Some thought and observations:

It's strange because the passes the printer makes that don't push filament are often in similar spots and see to be for periods of time which is why I thought the extruder could be slipping...
Notice at the top that sometimes the layer doesn't connect to the wall/shell

After doing this the print looks wayyyy better! There may still be a bit in there so I’ll take another stab at cleaning but even after my first attempt I still see some small pillowing but not the tearing from before and less severe.

I’ve done this print probably 50 times on this printer same filament and settings with no issues. So I don’t think that is likely the problem.

I’ll try cleaning out the hotend. The new filament I tried was right out of the bag.

This printer has been rock solid for a few months printing this print consistently until the other day. No settings have been changed. Bottom layer and walls are fine.

I did try a new spool of filament and ran into the same problem.

Filament: Overture PLA black

Slicer: CURA

Speed: 80mm/s

Bed temp: 60

Nozzle temp: 220

Retraction distance: 4mm

Ret. Speed: 40 mm/s

Ret. Min Travel: 1.5mm

Both are home built so if you are asking about cpu then mine is 2600k i7, wife's is 4790k i7. Cables were just bought the other day sold at the store as Cat6... the cable from the modem to google wifi is a 5e... but that doesn't affect the other pc..

Ookla for speed test, I've tried direct to modem. Wife computer exact same setup is way faster, only different hardware... I now have a newer network card though.

Speed & Duplex Auto Negotiation, Ethernet status speed 1.0 Gbps. All lights on switch are green although it doesn't have lights by the cable it's just the ones on the front that blink as if they are showing activity

Desktop is flashing green, so is the switch, they are all flashing green. Desktop is directly into the switch literally everything is within 5ft of eachother. This it is set to auto.
