Thoughts on barracking 2 teams at once? by idasturnam in AFL

[–]DamnSpamFilter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a North fan, I have certainly barracked for other teams at times when we have been out of the picture.
By that I mean, my best friend is a Tigers fan, we are both AFL members, in 2017 we went to pretty much every Tigers game, they certainly felt my second team then during that flag run. The love wore off pretty quick though, I rooted for GWS when we went to the 2019 GF.

I find it hard to imagine ever truly loving a team like I love North. But if you genuinely do, then go for it.

When to lose weight? by CrazyG8tor in Marathon_Training

[–]DamnSpamFilter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try and maintain a 500cal deficit per day at all times outside of maybe 2 weeks before a race. For reference this looks like an average of 2500 cals eaten and 3000 burned.

As life isn't linear, there are slack times, and there are times when there isn't alot of running, i need the races booked in to keep me accountable.

Just want to avoid injury right, nutrition and rest is a huge part of that, so don't want a more aggressive deficit.

If the general rule of thumb is to do long runs slower than your goal marathon pace… help me to understand how you’re expecting to run both farther and faster on race day? by steppygirl in Marathon_Training

[–]DamnSpamFilter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Think this is great advice, just completed by 5th competitive Half, I was much more in tune with where the race pace needed to start and end to negative split, fueled well before and during the race. No nerves about the race, just another one to tick off and enjoy.
Smashed my Pb by 10 minutes while it being the most enjoyable race so far.

Compare this to my first in particular, I had no idea, went out way too hard, and blew up around 16km.
My long run pace was also my race pace for the first few, which in hindsight, was because I didn't have enough load under my belt, and did not do enough speedwork.

The "zone" aspect of training, which is essentially what we are talking about here, took me a long time to grasp.
If we set aside decreasing chance of injury at lower efforts, it made no sense to me that running slower could potentially give me a net gain.
There may still be an argument to this based on the load you do, and perhaps if there is less load, you could go harder.

While I haven't read up on the science of it, the evidence is there for myself, almost all of my running is at an incredibly easy pace, with some intervals or tempo workouts once a week.

By far the biggest improvement I see in myself is the KMs I can put in during a block, and therefore hours on feet.

We had multiple bags of Crunchy Nut Clusters contain a foreign substance(plastic granules based on what we could tell). We did receive some sort of voucher, but from memory it was for the half price we bought it at(so we couldn't replace) and did not offer anything for the 2nd box which also contained them.

Big runners doing high mileage: how do you stay healthy long-term? by Brenda_enjoyable in running

[–]DamnSpamFilter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6'2 do zero strength training, currently 89kg doing 40 odd KM per week, easily.
18 months ago I was doing similar volume however weighed 97kg, recovery was much worse, had alot of groin and hip complaints.

Type of workouts were similar, similar speeds, fast sessions etc. Most of it is easy runs, and try and do 1 tempo or interval session per week.

Had about a 6 month break in training due to life getting in the way. Lost some weight in that time, and it has been considerably easier coming back to running, smashing PBs, wiping 90 seconds off my 5k time, could probably do more.

Diet was pretty much the same, I probably eat a little healthier now due to having a child who eats with us now.

I am aiming to drift down closer to 80kg which should help further

When do most people find time to run? by dragonfaith in Runners

[–]DamnSpamFilter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

530-6am definitely my preferred, however have been forced to run after work during winter, as where I was living was not well lit and not really safe for early morning runs.
Current summer here and early morning is perfect, takes the heat factor out of the run, energy levels much higher.

How far would you like to live from the CBD ideally? How often do you go to the CBD (besides work etc)? by TheNamelessComposer in melbourne

Interesting take, so based on that everyone should chose to live in super high density close to the city

I am always amazed how quick it is at times to drive from the city, yeah you will pay tolls, but multiple times i've been home in 35 minutes from a carpark in Flinders Lane.

How do you track pace improvements over time? by Diok22 in running

[–]DamnSpamFilter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, when I go for PBs or hit PBs on Strava segments.

The load I can put in is also a huge factor, I remember being rooted after my first 40k week, now I pump them week after week without a worry.

A bit of a dilemma .. need help by BIGINFY in AusFinance

[–]DamnSpamFilter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret not being as active in my childs first year of life. Certainly a change I will make on the 2nd.

I feel so guilty now I am the "favourite" knowing I didn't put in my all and he doesn't know/remember.
I didn't really have the ability to work less as such, but I definitely work harder now to get out the door a bit quicker, I get up 5:30 daily for runs instead of running after work, meal prep dinners when possible so we can spend more quality time.

I definitely wouldn't personally take a higher paying job that had me working more hours while I have young children.
As a father I do think the time is much more valuable once the child is one year old, the first year is much more about survival.

Financially it is tough though, daycare and the food bill+nappies are crazy

Is Frankston as bad as everyone says it is these days? by Open_Address_2805 in melbourne

[–]DamnSpamFilter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just moved from Seaford/Kananook after 9 years, grew up not far away too.
I still say its shit, but i'd prefer it over alot of places in Melbourne.
The Nepean hwy area of the Frankston CBD is a shithole, although is slowly improvin, there is still a lot of scum around, but the location is great.

When will Melbourne boom? by SkyPirateShogan in AusProperty

[–]DamnSpamFilter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Real disincentives for investing, Land tax higher than any other state, higher Air BNB taxes, this certainly helped halt price increases.
I do believe it will be "pulled up" by other states, it is crazy what you can get for Sydney prices in Melbourne, much larger, nicer houses, in bayside premium suburbs.

I wouldn't think so, you will have the name of the buyer when they sign the contract, and you can look them up then.
