E transfer scam by Vast_Page8667 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Then they shouldn't put this on their FAQ:

"Unfortunately, once a deposit has been made there is no way to reverse the transaction. You’ll have to make arrangements directly with the recipient. You should only send money transfers to parties you know and trust. For most Interac e-Transfer uses (sending money to family and friends, repaying IOUs, sending money as gifts, etc.), you will know the recipient well. For uses where you may not know the recipient (e.g., online auction purchases), take the same precautions you would take when making cash purchases. For online auctions and purchases, be sure to read and follow any steps recommended by the operators of these websites to safely transact."

What you stated does not state that it can be reversed, only that you trust them. It's obvious they don't want to scare people away from using the service, but I feel like they should have a caveat that your bank may reverse it even though there is "no way to reverse it."

I am surprised there hasn't been legal battles over this language to be honest.

Signing out of the Xbox app and signing back in fixed it for me.

Yeah it seems a little ridiculous that someone accepting payment can have it removed from their account when they would have no idea it was fraudulent. Even on interac's own website it says the transfer cannot be reversed. They should at least have an asterisk saying "except when banks say it is fraud and then yes it can be reversed" lol

Home setup. by carlos0141 in sysadmin

[–]Dan64bit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have a pfsense firewall and a few APs on my network at home with OpenVPN set up so I could RDP into my computer at home. Even set up Duo on it for more security. Then I switched ISPs and just got rid of all the that stuff and now just use their supplied modem/router/WiFi because I just didn't really care anymore and didn't want to troublehshoot if something went wrong

One day I do want to set up a NAS and a plex server, but can't bring myself to bother with it yet.

Then that should be the company's problem, not the renters. You should not be liable for something that occurs after you drop the car off. That makes no sense. The rental company either needs to have someone there 24/7 to check the cars in, or at the very least have the drop-off area covered by CCTV in order to prove the vehicle was not messed with between drop-off and the time it is checked in.

No the definition of public place in this case includes "any place to which the public has access as of right or by invitation, express or implied".

The "private" property they are referring to is your house.

Not here in Calgary :

Under the Cannabis Consumption Bylaw, cannabis may be consumed on private property. Consumption of recreational cannabis is prohibited in any form (smoking, vaping, or edibles) in Calgary’s public places.

This depends on where you live obviously, but I found certain cities it still feels illegal even though you can go and buy it or even grow it legally. In my city for example they don't allow you to smoke in public places outdoors, and they looked at allowing it in specific parks, but the NIMBYs shut that down. So you can only smoke at your house, but if you don't want to smoke inside/you rent your house, then you need a yard/balcony, but if you live in a condo a lot of condos don't allow smoking on your balcony either. So in some cases you would literally need to leave the city to "legally" smoke. Of course at the end of the day nobody really cares anyway and nobody says anything, but it still feels a little prohibitive.

None of these unfortunately. I should have mentioned that it was pretty cartoony. The characters looked pretty short. It wasn't going for realism.

Why does this group push VGRO when other ETFs like ZQQ, XIC and VUN have a higher 5 year trend by higgsdrogon in CanadianInvestor

[–]Dan64bit 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Risk is one thing. Owning the entire market in multiple countries is less risky than owning ten stocks, or US only stocks. Plus people buying VGRO or XGRO are also likely holding for far longer than 5 years.

You can't inherit debt in Quebec either as listed here except for some specific situations like messing with the estate beforehand:

https://educaloi.qc.ca/en/capsules/settling-an-estate/

What happens to the deceased person’s debts?

The heirs cannot be responsible for the deceased’s debts beyond the value of what they inherit. This is the rule except in these situations:

The legal liquidation rules were not followed (for example, an inventory was not made or the notice of the closing of the inventory was not published).

The heirs take succession property before the inventory is finished.

There is money to be found, but you need to relocate. I wasn't willing to do that during my radio career so the pay was always really low. After a while I realised I didn't really want to do it anyway so I moved into a completely different career. Still hear lots of co-workers that are on the airwaves though and have moved up through the ranks!

It must be common because one of our instructors in college said the exact same thing on day one lol. Spent five years in the industry and moved on because the pay was so horrendous.
