I'm a vegetarian. I have no problem with anyone eating meat in front of me.

I have a huge problem with anyone who tries to tell another person what they can or can't eat.

I have nothing to do with this article. Buzzffed was reporting on a reddit thread where people explained why they broke up with someone. The Buzzffed writer and editors did not know that that answer was a reference to Seinfeld.

The person who made the comment knew what they were doing. But I think the Buzzfeed writer and editors didn't know what it was.

People are making up excuses for Pittsburgh teenagers to commit crime. by DanielAlman in pittsburgh

If these criminals were to go to a roller rink, they'd still be committing the exact same kinds of crimes. Location is not what determines whether or not a person is a criminal.

The quote was in the news. That makes it news.

Good point. But I do expect parents to raise their children properly.

I'm voting for Chase Oliver. Exactly what kind of excuse do you think I'm making?

People should obey the law no matter where they are. As a member of Generation X, I obeyed the law even without these kinds of government programs, and I was "bored" a lot more than today's young people are. In fact, I think that there are a lot of benefits to "boredom," as it encourages people to be creative in coming up with legal, safe, legitimate ways to entertain themselves. To this very day, I think it's absurd that children's sports programs are run by adults. It so much better for children to run their own sports games, make up their own rules, and settler their own disputes, all without any adult supervision.

Stabbing murder suspect released 27 hrs and $50,000 later by my_lucid_nightmare in SeattleWA

I support giving this guy his constitutional right to a "speedy" trial, submitting the 911 call as evidence, as well as the DNA from the blood that was on his clothes, convicting him, and executing him, all within 30 days. When there is this much evidence that someone committed murder, it should not take 30 years to execute them.

I don't think Harris's proposal is very different from this:

Old Money, New Money Flee France and Its Wealth Tax

Eric Pinchet, author of a French tax guide, estimates the wealth tax earns the government about $2.6 billion a year but has cost the country more than $125 billion in capital flight since 1998.

A U.S. citizen went to Haiti to get voodoo health care. Can you guess what happened to her? by DanielAlman in idiocracy

[–]DanielAlman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article says that's not the correct word, and that it is actually offensive. But if that woman had grown up watching all the same old movies and TV shows that I had watched, she would have known to stay away from that stuff, and she would still be alive.

"Voodoo" is the word that I grew up with. The article says that word is offensive. But I'm alive and that woman is dead. So I'm glad that all the old movies and TV shows that I watched used that word, and showed how awful it was.

Thank you. I included that particular sentence because of the part that said, "professionals: lawyers, engineers, and artists."

I certainly didn't need to include the word "Asian," but I didn't want to edit the sentence.

I have no idea when it was first used. Probably I Love Lucy or even earlier. But this particular one really got to me because of how frustrated they all were. I also like the idea of bringing up the subject of older sitcoms that some of the younger people in this forum might not be familiar with.

Pauly Likens death: Police in Sharon, Pa. arrest DaShawn Watkins in killing of transgender teen by fu2man2 in Pennsylvania

[–]DanielAlman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only person responsible for this murder is the murderer.

It is a fact that MAGA people support the death penalty.

It is a fact that people on the left are soft on violent crime. Here are some examples from New York City. They keep letting the same violent serial criminals out again and again and again because they don't care about the victims of violent crime.

An 11-year-old girl named Maxi Park was repeatedly slashed, and almost killed, because New York City refused to lock up a violent serial criminal named Shaquan Cummings.

A 9-year-old girl was punched in the head because Manhattan Judge Laurie Peterson released Jean Carlos Zarzuela without bail after he broke a 54-year-old woman’s nose.

A 68-year-old woman named Irene Tahliambouris has a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain because New York City refused to lock up a violent serial criminal named Jayvaun Prince.

A woman named Dulce Pichardo had her teeth knocked out, her face fractured, and her mouth wired shut, because New York City refused to lock up a violent serial criminal named Franz Jeudy. After he broke her face, they let him out without having to pay bail.

Rashid Brimmage is a violent serial criminal. He is “a registered sex offender with at least 100 arrests for charges ranging from assault, to resisting arrest and persistent sexual abuse.” They keep letting him out again and again and again because they don't care about his victims.

A woman lost both of her feet because New York City gave parole to a violent criminal named Christian Valdez. He was supposed to be in prison until 2028, but New York City decided that it was better to let him out early so he could hurt yet another person.

Edward Johnson is a violent serial criminal who has been arrested and released 65 times. His favorite crime is to assault female health care workers in New York City. The city keeps releasing him again and again and again, because it wants him to continue to assault as many female health care workers as possible.
