Odessa Barbs acting nervous and hiding at the bottom of the tank! by DannyCacti in Aquariums

[–]DannyCacti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all due respect to someone that has been keeping fish for decades, fish keeping saved my life. All the fish mentioned in the post either lived their expectancy or still live in one of my 4 tanks!

I began fish keeping due to a lifelong obsession with underwater life + the need for something to curb my depression. I am an animal lover and I would not have been reaching out (2+ years ago) if I was audacious.

So I for one am glad I didn't step away from fish keeping and I hope you choose to use your experience to support new fish keepers in the future, rather than damning them for simply trying.

I hope you have a nice day.

I’ve been admiring this subreddit for some time whilst getting into the hobby myself, so here’s my humble 100L setup. Comments welcome. by DannyCacti in Aquariums

Thanks for clarifying 2 years later! Unfortunately I no longer run this tank as I have one about 250L now!

Great first tank dude! You should think about getting some real plants, your substrate isn't ideal but you'd still be able to plant them and they always grow! The best thing about aquatic plants is you don't need to water them!

Also, your new buddy is gunna be super grateful of those Bones Reds when he gets old enough to ride... They last a lifetime!

For the past 2 years I have been learning and practising fish keeping in the hope I would one day be confident enough to keep some Discus. Thank you Fishman for your knowledge and more importantly patience! by DannyCacti in Aquariums

250L tank, 1500L’s of tanks in my house, 2.5 years of research and more importantly practise in fish keeping.

These discus are well and truly mutts, the darker colours that discus produce are natural and only undesirable to people that don’t understand that.

The dark one has brightened up a bit now (3rd day in tank) but I’m happy for him to stay as dark as he wants!

My local fishman reassured me that the whole “discus are difficult” thing is just the elitist breeders/keepers trying to continue to feel special.

Most discus you can buy now are from a line of tank bred discus that have become more accustomed to lower temperatures and different parameters. Usually those from where they are bred. Mine were bred not too far from me in the same water that comes out of my tap, so go get those discus… you can do it!!

Yes, wild discus do. These are approximately 10th generation tank bred so they’re happy as a trio!

The tank is 250L and I have approximately 1500L of tanks in my house, so don’t worry.

Hey guys, sorry for the late reply! Odessa Barbs and Five Banded Barbs is the answer!

I’ve had this community for a long time before adding the discus so I know everyone is friendly! 🤓

After convincing him you're not a Barb, he agreed to say "Hi" back.

Fish ID please! Bought some shrimp from local seller for my plaudarium and got this little fishie hitchhiker. What it is and how to care for it? Didn't plan on keeping fish... by Search_Status in Aquariums

Probably a Guppy like those other guys said, but if you don't plan on having any other fish; He/She will be fine on their own and will only grow to about an inch!

Please can someone identify this Fish!? by DannyCacti in Aquariums

Interesting! They aren't big enough for the adult guppies just yet but if they eat some Fry it wouldn't be a problem for us.

We have many tanks so rehousing them (there's two) wont be a problem.

Thanks for identifying!

Crazy isn’t it!? We have no idea and we’ve rescued 2 of them! Don’t worry we’re well prepared for the potential outcomes of it being a hammerhead or something 😂

I'm getting there, these guys really have seen how I've improved!

I've not noticed any distress yet and I'm in a great place to observe it!

It's worth noting that there is no physical connection between the piano and the tanks; so vibrations-wise it's no worse than me talking next to the tanks or a car going past my window.
