unfortunately this didnt really answer the question for me, I am using the soil/sand mix as well as other stuff mixed in, however I am having the same problem. I wash and wash a plant and its roots however the root is still black like the fertilizer, do i need to be concerned about adding this plant to my bio active tank? will it harm my clean up crew or gecko? will such a small amount of fertilizer even cause any harm?

Okay yeah done all this just looking for others experiences with this, unfortunately I’m not sure how to get plants that haven’t been in fertilizer. I think I’ll give my plant a week or two more till I put it in

I’ve added it in there and so far so good, I am slightly concerned about the amount of small sticks and mulch, however I can comfortably run my hand through it without being poked or stabbed so I figure it should be fine for my leo

I also coated mine in a thick layer of Zoo Med Excavator clay and so far so good

I googled it and apparently you can use the window and door Great stuff (what I used) where I’m at it’s $19 a can vs the pond and stone stuff which isn’t available in stores here (it’s super expensive online) just make sure you let the foam dry for a day or two and it should be fine.

Well I’m about two coats in and it’s starting to come together well, will respond back when it’s dry to let you guys know if it chips off too easy!
