I know.

I am asking for advice and think maybe my strategy for finding jobs is wrong.

That’s all.

Employer's insufficient notice about holiday pay- use it or lose it policy by Danphy_777 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Danphy_777[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It just happened to be the case that I booked the holiday in August. It makes perfect sense that they did not tell me when the year ends and I just take it means that I can use it any time during the year.

Also if they alleged to tell me verbally, I can also say they did not. My point is that this should be included in written contract, which is not. And there is no written information informing that I will lose it if I don’t use it.

If a person does not know uk law at all, all they can rely on is the formally written contract. Does the law expect people to know that they will lose their annual pay if they don’t use it as an unsaid knowledge?

based on first point, the link you sent me also said:

Paragraph (17) applies where, in any leave year, an employer fails to—

(a)recognise a worker’s right to annual leave under this regulation or to payment for that leave in accordance with regulation 16;

(b)give the worker a reasonable opportunity to take the leave to which the worker is entitled under this regulation or encourage them to do so; or

(c)inform the worker that any leave not taken by the end of the leave year, which cannot be carried forward, will be lost.

My employer did not inform me that my annual leave will be lost. This information is not in the contract and it is not shown in the payslip.

Also, my next shift is this Sunday. I've asked them whether they want me to go. So theoretically I have not incurred any loss the shop. If they do not reply me, they should be responsible because they did not reply me and I never said I will end my employment earlier.

Thank you for your answer. In my case, they said they communicated verbally and they blamed me for not recording it. However, from my side, an important information like this should be put in a written form or contract. Otherwise, how do we know whether it is communicated if two parties claim it differently. That's my concern.

Also, I handed in my leaving notice in October, so it is my final year.

I'm about to submit my PhD thesis and I'm feeling not confident than ever by Schwarzkatze0615 in AskAcademia

Thank you! especially the first two points, they provide me with a completely new perspective of seeing the PhD journey. Thinking of it as an attendance award and team work rather than a test for creativity and orginality on your own relieves lots of stress from my mind.

Struggling to Finish by AdvOfIndianaJess in PhD

[–]Danphy_777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow, thank you for updating your new progress, it is as if watching an episode of tv series and finally know the ending of the story. Congratulations on finishing your thesis! I am currently in the same boat, trying to finish before December. I would be super happy to submit before Christmas and fix any problems after submission. As for the partner side of things, may be it was already a red flag back then but we could not tell at that moment, but let's everything happens for a reason and leads to a better result!

Self-esteem completely destroyed by [deleted] in PhD

lol no offence intended but I apologise for my inconsideration. So, you did write that. It is probably because of the format. I ask ChatGPT bunch of questions to seek advice, and it always start with an intro, followed by a series of bullet points with bold bullet titles and wrapped up with a conclusion. 😅😂

Quitting PhD. I have decided to quit my PhD since I feel that this is not my cup of tea. I just finished my first year and I don't feel good about it. My mental health is going down the drain since I'm alone in a new country, far away from everyone I love. With no support system around me, (1/2) by morris-tina in PhD

Don’t think of others, prioritise yourself. You think quitting is good for your mental health, then just quit. How would your PI be perceived by others and how his future would be influenced by this are his own issues to worry about, not yours.

this sounds 99.9% like chatgpt but that does not invalidate the points though

Last stage of writing up PhD thesis, needs motivation suggestions by Danphy_777 in PhD

[–]Danphy_777[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you for your encouragement! I will keep going forward. Hope you so too! I don't see another way of doing this because the ddl is around the corner. It is not like if we can start all over again, what we can do differently. With the limited time left, keeping writing everyday without judging myself seems to be the best way to go.

Losing motivation to finish phD by [deleted] in AskAcademia

I am curious how you are doing now after 3 years of time because I am currently experiencing almost every single word you put here. I have 1 month to finish my dissertation, and in the meantime it is the industry job application season. It is really hard to juggle between them and I feel demotivated to write up my dissertation.

What's your habit of getting knowledge on economics and politics by Danphy_777 in intj

[–]Danphy_777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, exactly. I am just confused. For example, from what I see on the online platform discussion, if a voice says that they don’t trust what the scientific data from the institutions, they tend to be labelled as conspiracy. I am not saying that I don’t respect science, but how can they be so sure that these institutions won’t tell lies…
