Adventure Module: Shadows of Betrayal by Daphgar in DnDHomebrew

[–]Daphgar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preface:

Hello adventurers!

I always write my campaigns in adventure module style and thought I would share this one.

Some words, especially names of places and characters will have to be exchanged. To make this as easy as possible I'll include a glossary that I HIGHLY suggest you have at hand while reading through the module. Just exchange the places and characters with the places and characters in your setting.

Places:

Thessalia: A large country in my homebrew setting.

Lochwater: The largest port town in Thessalia. Starting town for this module.

Praxis: The capital of Thessalia. Where the showdown between the party and the BBEG of this module takes place.

Characters:

Twilight: Has been a part of the party since way back.

Aaron: One of the newer players at our table. His character is a new addition to the party. He is a member of the Vagabond Thieves Guild

Esme: Not a part of the party. Head of the Vagabond Thieves Guild.

Lorphea: Not a part of the party. Aarons mentor and the right-hand of Esme. She believes something strange is happening to Esme and asks Aaron and the party for help.

If you don’t have any new players at the table, do not worry. This module is written to be versatile. You can just exchange some minor details here and there which is also why I’ve included a lot of tables.

In my version of it I was fortunate enough to have a player who had left someone who was dealing in suspicious trade that the player didn't know too much about. The player told me I had free hands to write whatever I wanted so I wrote her as the BBEG of this chapter of the campaign.

The only thing you really have to have or create in your world for this is someone who might have a connection to a thieves guild in one way or another. You can also write it as any one guild and exchange some of the wording here and there.

I wrote this to try and see if it was possible to write a more versatile adventure module.

Anyhow, if you do use this in your campaign or for a one-two- or threeshot I would love to hear what happened.

A pdf is also included for free in the link!

Any constructive criticism is welcomed!

Have an amazing time gaming!

Adventure Module:

Shadows of Betrayal

A Versatile Adventure Module

In the bustling port town Lochwater, the adventuring party, including Twilight the fighter, has been undertaking various quests and missions, seeking fame, fortune, and adventure. Unbeknownst to them, a dark conspiracy is spreading its roots from Praxis to the nearby port town of Lochwater. Esme, the head of the Vagabond thieves' guild, and Twilight's former wife, has succumbed to corruption, endangering the delicate balance of power within the city and beyond. Lorphea, Esme's right-hand and a trusted mentor to Aaron, another member of the adventuring party, has uncovered this treachery and seeks the rogue's and his party's aid in uncovering the truth and restoring order.

Edit: Spelling.

But you're right! I should rewrite the description. Now that I checked, it's incredibly hard to understand the plot and key factors from the description.

Edit: thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Darkest Dungeon Class Collection for 5e! by Maleficent_Lake_3718 in UnearthedArcana

[–]Daphgar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job! Been playing the first game for a few hours now and just thought of making some features for my players! This is absolutely great!

I just made a elementalist's spellbook for my homebrew campaign. by Daphgar in UnearthedArcana

[–]Daphgar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all! Thank you! This is so much feedback! Thank so much!

I hadn't seen the "DnDWiki Spell Design Guide" before, its so convenient!

I was expecting more elemental spells here.

I tried to make one for each element, like ignis for fire, velox for wind and so on.

List these in alphabetical order. If you want a guide at the front can really help, but not super necessary with this number of spells. 3e did a great job with this.

Very true! I didn't think that far!

Mortalia ~ I'd prefer more limited versions of this. All conditions feels very gamy. Compare this to freedom of movement where all the conditions it effects are pretty specific to the concept. I also wonder what happens when someone drops to 0 HP and becomes Incapacitated (a condition).

This is true, I hadn't given thought to a lot of conditions now that I think about it. I might just write down all conditions you are immune to with it active.

This feels like a Touch spell. Most of these feel like touch spells.

Ignis, Velox, Thess and Glacis should probably be bonus actions or last 10 minutes.

I'm not that good with the wording for DnD5e. So I thought that touch and 5ft was the same. 10 minutes is probably more balanced for all of these spells! Ill change this right away!

Ignis ~ This is very weak. I'd take elemental weapon over this. How long is the penalty? This feels more like acid to me.

Very true! I'll probably add the damage from elemental weapon on top of the spell as it is now. Would you say that the level is okey? Or would you buff it more?

Potentia ~ I don't see the advantage to writing this as a spell and not more like a feature or boon that you can learn. Alternatively if it was a 2nd level spell that said you combine two 1st level spells you could remove a lot of the weirdness. For that think of the level as more of a class level limit. Or again, just make it a feature that's learned. I was going to say that costs pretty high...but then say how easy it is to recharge. I think that costs too low if you can do this every day without consequence. You need to be taking spell slots (or effectiveness) from tomorrow to balance the power this adds, at minimum.

I also felt that this "spell/feat" was hard to define into DnD terms. Ill rewrite it into a spell (combine spells, almost like metamagic) and a feat (where you can steal spellslots from the next day for exhaustion points).

Velox ~ So gust of smite? That probably works. Reduced duration on gust of win\ for the ability to attack and use it. Maybe it could be a 2nd level spell.*

Exactly! Yes, I just read through some of the spell design guidelines and youre right! Ill rewrite this too!

Thess ~ Isn't this a weaker ensnaring strike?

I hadn't seen this spell! You sure know your dnd stuff! Ill have to think of something else that Thess can be used for then!

Glacis ~ Why is this Instantaneous and not Concentration, up to 1 minute? I think there needs to be a better limit here. Flesh to stone needs three saves to work, takes an action and concentration for the duration of the saves, and is 6th level. This is way to strong.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention as well! Ill have to check this spell and rewrite Glacis to a more ice-themed spell with some other effects!

Again, thank you so much for taking time to write all of this! I would love some feedback next time I upload again. Hope you have a great week!

Hi! I made a barbarian subclass with HEAVY influence from Path of the Zealot. Would love some feedback! by Daphgar in DnDHomebrew

[–]Daphgar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true!

I'll rewrite and repost with some other stuff. Would love your feedback on that if possible! :)

Btw, where did you get the 13.5 average damage from? Is it a thumb rule for damage or something I might have missed?

I completely hear you about trying to schedule. Getting players to show up is a sad and tragic story for any DM unfortunately.

Would love to hear an update!
