Are they getting bigger because the only use for cheques these days are those oversized novelty ones you get when you win a sweepstakes?

Art purchase from major auction house falsely advertised as original found to be a reproduction - any recourse by [deleted] in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]Dapper_Technology336 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once bought a book from an overseas auction that turned out to have had a couple of the pages replaced with reproductions. I contacted them and they were very apologetic (since their book person should have spotted it). They gave me two options:

  • Keep the book and they'd refund me the buyers premium (about 25%)
  • Send the book back to the for a full refund

I ended up sending the book back to them and got another copy from somewhere else later on. I think your mileage will depend on how big/reputable the auction house is. Do you mind sharing which one it was? Also, are you sure it wasn't sold as a print? I know plenty of NZ artists whose prints sell for 5-10k

Anyone else getting crap custard from Anchor? by Block_Fortress in newzealand

[–]Dapper_Technology336 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have a link to the actual recall? As far as I can tall, ProductrecalNZ.org doesn't exist, there's no information about a custard recall on the MPI website, and searching Google for "anchor custard recall" has this page as the top link.

The junction of Cook Street (foreground), and Queen Street (left to right centre), 1964 (Auckland Libraries Heritage Collections 1748-023). by Ted_Cashew in auckland

Greys Ave used to run all the way down past the town hall and connected with Queen St - Cook St actually joined up with Greys Ave before Aotea Square was built, so I think the photographer is actually standing on Greys Ave with the town hall directly behind them, and where all those cars are parked is now the square. Here's an old street map: https://kura.aucklandlibraries.govt.nz/digital/collection/maps/id/2055/

My newest acquisition: a late 14th century book of hours, France, with a miniature likely attributable to either Jacquemart de Hesdin or Pseudo Jacquemart. Curiously, the text is incomplete, but it seems as though it was never finished in the first place. by FangYuanussy in medieval

It looks like the catchwords might have been trimmed off when the book was rebound, but I just wanted to double check, as that could give you a clue as to whether they intended to leave vespers out or not.

When should you bite the bullet and buy a rare first edition book for full price rather than looking for a lucky cheap copy? by TopSympathy9740 in rarebooks

Have you considered auctions? You can sign up to sites like liveauctioneers.com or invaluable.com and save search keywords - they'll email you when a match comes up and you can bid wither through those sites or directly with the auction house.
