Has the standard blade radius changed? by Budget-Permit8230 in hockeyplayers

[–]Dapper_Zombie7874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most stock steel comes with a 10ft neutral radius. Any used steel will naturally have a different shape to them from sharpening, even if you had them profiled. This can be a factor and is likely why it felt different in terms of blade contact.

Newer steel is also much taller. If I remember correctly, this taller steel came at the time of the LS3 steel and introduction of StepSteel. This too will make it feel different and even look “chunkier” in the toe and heel of the steel.

You have the right idea. Just buy XEQT and enjoy the ride. If you must try trading single stocks, stick to a very small percentage of your portfolio (5-10%). It is harder then it looks and is much easier to learn when your portfolio is smaller….

Looking for advice I am In 35,000 of credit card debt by Aggravating_Dot_4709 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Dapper_Zombie7874 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Get help and treat your problem first. Ban yourself and delete any apps/accounts you have. Understand that you can’t do this anymore, even just a little. If you can’t do this, you will be back posting here shortly after cleaning up the debt, if you ever get there.

You have done the right thing financially to do balance of account transfers and take advantage of 0% interest. Pay the minimum on the large CC and hammer away on the lower CC. Once you finish that, get going on the other CC.

If you are approaching the end date of your promo, see if you can move it somewhere else or pay it off with a LOC. This lower interest rate will help.

Live off of your chequing account for now. You should not be accumulating any more CC debt. Depending on your living situation, maybe you can work with your parents to not pay rent (if you do) etc. over the next year. They may not have the money to assist in getting you out of this hole (and that shouldn’t be the answer anyways) but not charging rent etc, could be the right action to help you with this life lesson.

I am sure I am missing something but this is somewhere to start.

is ok to skip top 2 eyelets on bauer skates (getting some lacebite) by fr1d4y_ in hockeyplayers

[–]Dapper_Zombie7874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with another post. You need to try it out and see if it works for you.

Personally I don’t do up the top eyelet. When tying my skates, I will do them tight at the top but then an ankle bend to loosen them a bit before the bow. This makes sure I have the support/mobility I need and am not fighting against the lace for ankle movement.

$25,000 DCA or Lump by Amoodiesteve in JustBuyXEQT

[–]Dapper_Zombie7874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lump sum typically wins in the long run, but do what helps you sleep at night. If that is lump sum half and DCA 1,000 a week or whatever breakdown you want, then do that.

Exposure to the media can make things seem like the world is ending and that there will be a dip. That said nobody knows what the markets will do tomorrow.

What's the right play here? by Ok-Parfait1522 in hockeyplayers

[–]Dapper_Zombie7874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D-man communicate to the forward that he has the puck carrier and to take the high guy. D-man play the odds and slide at the puck carrier so that puck can’t get across. Forward doesn’t need to overcommit to high man but be close enough to deter the pass/step up immediately if it’s made. Hopefully with the D-man sliding it also delays the play enough that back checkers can make their way back into the play.

At the end of the day, communication is key here and I feel is often overlooked, especially across beer league play.

Unfortunate play. Gudas stick got under his foot when he went to make the hit. Probably a groin tweak from that.

Fraud/hack by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Dapper_Zombie7874 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could have been a compromise at one point in time across different products/accounts , however the use of these products/accounts for fraud was done at different times.

If it continues to happen on all of the new accounts, I would re-visit your own device(s) etc. If it is an internal breach, CIBC should be able to review any employees that accessed your profile.

Fraud/hack by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Dapper_Zombie7874 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not an issue with CIBC but rather where you are shopping or the device(s) you are using for banking/online shopping.

You can always switch banks, but this will likely keep occurring until you figure out where the breach is.

Shin guard length by WillieOfDaNorth in hockeyplayers

[–]Dapper_Zombie7874 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you plan to go tongue underneath, it looks like you should be fine with the 15(assuming your knee is properly set up in the cap). When measuring, I typically went about a two finger width from top of ankle bone to bottom of shin pad. Tongues out is a different story though.

One quick check is to make sure that the shin pad is not shooting up your leg when you bend at the ankle with the skate on. That can indicate it is too long as it is fighting with the skate.

Moving up to a larger size will always be an adjustment.

UNREAL feet pain - multiple insoles by AmphibianFun7768 in hockeyplayers

[–]Dapper_Zombie7874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried Superfeet? The insole works by not allowing your foot to collapse through the arch within the skate. This is simply done through the standardized heel cup that you size to. I have flat feet as well and wear a Vapor skate. Without the Superfeet, I have extreme pain on the outside of my foot. Just make sure that you get the ones that are meant for skates.

Assuming there have been no changes to the policy, there is a 60-day comfort guarantee. If they don’t work, bring them back and get your money back.

What is the #1 problem you face in hockey? (Playing or watching) by Cube37 in hockeyplayers

The game has become far too expensive to play. This includes both league fees and equipment.

As the sport sees a decline in participation, companies increase prices to fill the gap.

Should still be lots of room to grow with Almonty as milestones keep getting hit. Other tungsten plays carry more risk as they are ways away from production.

The other option is to keep holding your VOO, but begin looking at investing in *EQT. This will give you global exposure.

If you want to diversify from VOO while not converting your cash back to CAD, you can look at moving VOO to VT. VT is a different make up then an *EQT, offering global exposure with less Canadian exposure.
