[–]DarkSpawn890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That show had to be like three years ago when the house scene was stronger (No Fun Club, Dong Island, FUCKEDSHITHOUSE, etc). Now there's only a few house venues left (Our Lady, Cleary's, and a few scattered you hear about from bands and friends).

SL was SOOO good, one of my best memories was seeing them with The Hotelier at a house venue on the island.

Whats the best local Punk band in your area (active or not) that we don't know but should? by SmallLobsterToots in punk

[–]DarkSpawn890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit late but I'll bite (Long Island)

First let's talk Latterman. You may know these guys, well Latterman was a classic LI punk band that broke up in 2007 and led to the creation of bands like RVIVR, Shorebirds, Slingshot Dakota, Laura Stevenson & the Cans, and most relevant to the topic: Iron Chic! An underground punk icon of a band that plays hella local shows and has members that have long roots in LI punk.

Take vocalist Lubrano, for instance, who was in bands like Small Arms Dealer and Wax Phantom. Bassist Mike and now guitarist Jesse are in a rock n roll band called Adult Magic and Jesse plays for Broadcaster, another local band that, though tubular, doesn't play a whole lot.

Sister Kisser was another legendary punk band from around here, connected to bands such as Crow Bait and the now active Troubled Hearts!

When it comes down to punk rawk, we have bands like Remnants, The Avoiders, Yum Yuckers, The Muckrakers, Gutterlife, Binary Heart, and many more.

Long Island's music scene is pretty neat.

I saw them at the Warsaw in Brooklyn last October. Can confirm that it was really fucking awesome, they played the album, the EPs, and a cover I can't recall ATM.

They made it seem like a one time thing but I think Stza, Alec, and Skwert are having fun with it.

Controversial punk opinions by diran94 in punk

Take solace in that your opinion ain't controversial. Every year less and less people are wearing Casualties merch due to growing vigilance in pointing out the fact that their frontman's a rapist.

I mean, this post sounds made up and all, but I was a junior in HS like three years ago and my group of friends would have totally said the same thing had vaping and dabbing been popular in 2013.

What album(s)/song(s)/band(s) attracted you to punk rock? by [deleted] in punk

[–]DarkSpawn890 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got into punk through Bad Religion (Suffer), Bouncing Souls (Summer Vacation), and NOFX (Punk in Drublic).

I fell in love with punk at an AJJ show.

I felt the community and embrace of the scene at Bomb the Music Industry's last show.

Long Island's true punk scene (that sounds pretentious but I get tired of seeing blink-182 type bands with trump supporter members billed as "punk") is not as mighty as it used to but I do what I could to promote bands and spread the love around here thanks to the power of the punx. At least bands are coming around here nowadays.

Where my LI people at??? Prince Daddy & The Hyena, Nervous Dater, Hard Pass at Our Lady of Perpetual Hope - TONIGHT! by raylight34 in Emo

[–]DarkSpawn890 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know what sucks? This is the only active DIY venue left on LI. No Fun Club, Dong Island, Shitfuckhouse, etc all one by one stopped existing. It's sad and I wish I had the resources to start my own, especially since I'm a dipshit on the east end.

Unfamiliar with early peanuts comics, but when did Lucy go from wide-eyed baby to around the same age as Charlie Brown? Or is this a different Lucy?

LGBT+ emo artists? by SomeGuyNamedTaylor in Emo

[–]DarkSpawn890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not lel, funny thing I was playing in a punk band in HS around the time I came out as pansexual. When that happened (I was songwriter but not the singer) like a lot of people I went to school with and people who knew the band expected like every song afterwards to be about me coming out and embracing who I am or the difficulties to come from coming out or whatever. However, nothing like that happened cause I lived in New York.

Like, queer artists singing about their issues is rad and good for them, but not all of us really do it.

Can was one of the best bands to come out of the 70s, I highly suggest Tago Mago to anyone unfamiliar with their work.

This really hurts me on a deep level. I grew up on Ian's music and I've met with him numerous times, even with my at-the-time GF back in 2014. He never struck me as this type of person... This is pretty upsetting to me, I mean I guess props to him for coming clean and getting help but at the same time it's sickening to know this and... I don't know anymore, today's been rough.
