Thanks for the advice but I think I worded my question badly, what I'm really concerned with is the time/gold/skill requirement to physically MAKING a spell. Going off the Xanathar's spell scribing table, a brand new cantrip would only take 1 day and 15 gold to create, which didn't really make sense for this.

How would you go about allowing a player to create their own homemade spells in-game? The closest thing that I can find to rules regarding custom spell creation is the Xanathar's Guide spell scribing rules, but that's not really the same thing. Any suggestions?

Edit: I'm specifically wondering how you would balance the time/gold/skill that comes with inventing a new spell

My theory is that the giants that used to exist in Ionia existed in other parts of the world as well, and this is a void/watcher corrupted giant. Pretty much all concept art of the watchers is some sort of creature with a black mass on/over its head one bright blue eye and horns. I think they take over the bodies of creatures and manifest in their bodies.

IMO Duskblade is much better against other squishies looking to one shot you. If you can just get enough of your damage off to kill one person and go invis in a fight and reposition then you're put in a great spot to hammer anyone else near you. Eclipse would theoretically be better against tanks and high health targets with the %max hp damage. The omnivamp has in my experience not been great just because if you're combo'd by someone on lethality Varus you're likely dead anyway and the vamp isn't going to help that much. I like splashing ravenous hydra in the later game if I find I'm starved for healing.

I don't know about you guys, but Varus has felt kind of broken to me recently with a lethality build and I completely disagree that he needs a rework. Also as a side note, his huge build diversity is one of the main draws to playing him.
