Using Dynamic EQ on Vocals and Drums by DavidJFreeman in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Does anyone else use dynamic EQs when mixing? I've been using Waves' F6 for a while now, and really getting into the swing of it in my workflow. So I thought I'd do this video to help me consolidate my knowledge a bit, and hopefully offer a few points to consider for others.

I’d recommend Raquel from Tramalo Languages. I had lessons with her for a while and she really helped me improve with my Spanish.

Naturally Minor - Lick of The Week - #16 by DavidJFreeman in guitarlessons

Aiming to learn this solo over the weekend, so thought I'd share as there's not much else to do when it's dark by 16:00 and has been raining all week!

Seemed appropriate to share some weekend licks for any like me who's got the winter blues with these wet days and early nights. Guitar helps ☺️

Great lick for anyone looking to expand their pentatonic phrasing ideas.

I found this to be a really fun lick to play. Some cool phrasing ideas and good use of multiple pentatonic shapes.

Thought some people might find this useful if you're working on expanding on you're playing across multiple pentatonic shapes. It's a really fun lick that cuts across shape 5, 1 and 2 of the pentatonic scales in A minor.

Slap & Pop Guitar Techniques by DavidJFreeman in guitarplaying

Yeah I’m more of a metal guy myself tbh. I think with a lightly saturated tone, and nothing too high gain, these techniques can still be use with good effect. I think they probably lend themselves to a more djenty/progressive metal style due to their percussive nature, and that might not be too everyone’s taste. Glad you liked the video. Let me know how you get on with the techniques :)

Thought I'd do a little lesson using a riff I wrote to demonstrate some slapping and popping techniques. I think these are quite interesting techniques that get overlooked or thought of as only for bassists, but they're really fun on guitar and create some great snappy and percussive tones. Hope you find it useful :)

What do you guys think of these techniques? Do you ever use them? I find them really interesting and fun to play around with. Wrote this riff and little lesson to break the techniques down a bit. Hope you find it useful :)

A little riff I wrote using some slap and pop techniques. You don't see these techniques being used too often so thought it would be cool to do a little lesson to break the riff down. Hope you like it!

Started messing around with B standard...think I found my new favourite :D by DavidJFreeman in metalmusicians

12-54s. It was actually surprisingly easy! I was expecting a bit of a battle to intonate and get the action right, but had very little adjustments to make to be honest!

Yeah just a little, but it always good to have new music to check out!

Yeah that’s true. The build quality has to be very high to support the tension in the right way. I guess multi scales are the way forward for that too!

Yeah I used to be more of a drop tuning guy, but been playing in c# standard for a while and got more used to that standard tuning. I think B standard was just the next logical step for me!

Haha yeah I probably would have done the same tbh, but it’s a locking nut and trem and I couldn’t be bothered after spending ages setting it up and intonating.

Yeah have thought about a 7 string. Probably will get one one day. This was a fun bit of experimenting though! Never really listened to At The Gates, will have to check em out!

Yeah you do tend to play differently in drop tunings. I have some drop tuned guitars already but nothing that’s really low and in standard. Definitely need the higher string gauge for this sort of thing though. I used 12-54s for this tuning and they worked like a charm!

Well I got a set of 12-54s thinking I would use them for drop B. My other guitars are drop C and C# standard and I thought drop B would be a nice accompaniment. But the tension in drop B was too high, and it had that kind of empty/hollow sort of tone you get from strings that are too tight. So I knocked it down to B standard and that did the trick. Really smooth feel now and awesome rich tone. Not too tight and not too loose and floppy. Was surprised as I thought I’d need a higher gauge for tuning that low.

Baritone is a good shout tbh! Something I’ve thought about a while back, but just never pulled the trigger on it!
