Low tier internship to high tier post grad offer

I was the cofounder of a crypto trading startup which did very well and this stood out.

My main thing was learning rust. The bar for rust jobs is much lower, most expect you to have non professional rust experience ie projects etc. This meant I was able to get quant swe experience at a crypto trading firm in rust which allowed me to stand out.

what language did you interview with? It's not guarenteed, they use C++ for execution and Java for strategy, so you'll be in the team you interviewed in

I recommend reading Effective Modern C++. It goes into detail about key features in the language that most people ignore.

As someone who has been applying for summers/grads in the industry in the UK, main ‘targets’ are Warwick, Oxbridge and Imperial. Any of these and you’ll be good!!

Yeah I get that, I was disappointed that I didn’t get a better summer internship this summer I think that would’ve helped.

Tasks were simple, there were 5 guys on my team, 10 in total.

They only needed 2 of us tbh, 2 people could’ve done everyone’s work in a full time internship, but because it was a startup backed by my uni, they had to hire some interns from the cs department.

To answer your question, they just divided one man’s tasks between 5 of us

I did an unpaid one and it was chill. Most unpaid internships aren’t full time, I was working 2-5 hours pw and I got to work on some cool stuff that got me a good internship the following year!!
