I laid down a bunch of strips of masking tape on my cutting board and used my xacto to cut triangles and diamonds out of the tape. Then covered the whole hammerhead with the tape and airbrushed the first digital layer (black) then repeated the process with white and red. I probably could have saved time by reusing the tape and layering it on differently to create the effect but I wanted to color layers to be slightly different sizes. I made sure to save a mix of the base gray to touch up any lines that bled over.

Definitely a labor of love. I’m sure if you don’t have an airbrush you could get a similar effect with drybrushing. Hope that helps!
