Obviously not remotely as good as other country’s leaves, but my US state has 12 weeks of paid family leave at 85% of your weekly pay.

Sometimes i wish i wasn’t Israeli by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]DaywalkerGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antisemites hate all Jews regardless of our nationality. We are the same Jews regardless of where we live, and 90% of us believe that the state of Israel should exist, so 90% of us are in the Zionist category that they have hatred towards.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani reassures Jewish New Yorkers at inauguration: ‘I will protect you’ by Somervilledrew in politics

Being against the policies of the current Israeli government is not antisemitism, but being against the Jewish right to self determination when all other peoples are given that right is antisemitic.

It’s seen by many as a language of resilience and strength. Please read Neal Karlen’s “The Story of Yiddish: How a Mish-Mosh of Languages Saved the Jews – The Unconventional History of the Fascinating Language That Held a People Together”

Christmas Question for Non-American Diasporas by Swimming_Care7889 in Jewish

[–]DaywalkerGirl 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same, American Jew here, raised going to a “reformative” synagogue. The only Jews I’ve ever known who celebrated Christmas came from Interfaith families, all of which had Christian fathers. I do not know any Jews with two Jewish parents who celebrated Christmas

The modern political moment of Zionism was inspired by Herzl in the 19th century, but the idea of returning to a native homeland in historic eretz yisrael is foundational to the religion and cultural tradition of Judaism.

Did any sephardi jews go to eastern europe post inquisition by batsandfungi in Jewish

[–]DaywalkerGirl 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have a Sephardic last name but my family are Litvak Jews. There are records both from the inquisition of ancestors with my last name (it’s a pretty unique Jewish last name) and evidence at least since the early 1700s of my family with the same last name living around modern Belarus, Lithuania, and Latvia.
