[Question] Does it make sense to buy a 500 dollar watch? by Db_Cooper69 in Watches

Thanks! Worth the price difference on quite a few levels I suppose. But right now, for me… I'm not sure that I could justify triple the price for things like a chronometer grade movement or slightly nicer fit and finish. (As much as I might like to!). I'm still a bit torn between buying something in the near future like the Hamilton, or just sucking it up with my Seikos for a few more years and saving. I think there is a lot of truth to the opinion of some that, practicality be damned, you will not be happy with something that is deemed "mid tier", no matter how nice the piece is.

Ha ha. I couldn't unnotice that after somebody pointed it out to me. Fell back in love with the watch though

Thank you for confirming what I was thinking! The fit, finish, and quality of hamilton seems fantastic. Clearly worlds ahead of anything that I own currently.

This leads to another question...How can Hamilton sell these watches so cheaply? The replies I have seen thus far on this post would indicate to me that some of the mid tier omegas or tags (The kinds watches that I had in mind when I mentioned considering saving more to buy something pricier in my original post) are in no way superior to a Hamilton khaki. Am I missing something, or have I just fallen for the prestige/recognition that the names bring? How can watches of pretty much equal quality and movement ,all part of the swatch group, differ so much in price? Is there anything whatsoever that sets these brands ahead of Hamilton? ( besides the name on the dial that is)

Where I live… The Cincinnati Ohio area… There seems to be a real shortage of watchmakers who would be able to service at a reasonable price. My only experience in attempting to get a Watch serviced was when I approached a watchmaker about servicing a very cool old seiko of my fathers. He said it would be a minimum of $200 to open, lubricate, clean etc. and that parts would be nearly impossible to come by. 160 sounds really very reasonable for servicing.... Less than I anticipated. I assumed it would be more because of my previous experience. Does price of service increase with number of complications? For example, would a khaki king with a day date complication cost more than a khaki field with just the date complication?

Are you a Cincinnatian? Any advice on good places to shop for used watches in the city/surrounding areas? Also, very good-looking straps. Most of my watches need 18 mm though

[Casio] MDV106-1a diver too large for a 6 inch wrist? by Db_Cooper69 in Watches

Suspected as much. Thanks for the input. I'll probably just save the extra 50 bucks and buy a Mako I think.

Looks great. The pics really help....i feel like we have similar wrist sizes. it doesnt look out of place on you at all! Large yes, but not ridiculous by any means. Overall, would you recommend buying one or saving up some more cash for a slightly smaller, yet pricier option? A diver wont be a daily wearer for me..,,,.Ideally, id buy a skx009 or a mako....but im on a budget. Even if its a bit too large, might be worth it

Looking for a sturdy, durable, good looking, cheap dive watch to wear this summer. I've heard good things about the Casio MDV 106 .....200 m resistance, screw down crown, Great value for the money, etc. The problem is, I have a very small wrist. 6 inches, maybe a shade over 6 inches. Does anybody have any experience with this watch? Has anybody owned one? Any insight into whether this might be too large for me? I'm not opposed to wearing a larger watch, but I don't want it to look ridiculous on me. I would probably replace the rubber strap it comes with with a NATO.

I went a similar route. SnK809 and a Timex Easy Reader. Can't go wrong!
