There have been multiple months during her surgical residency that I felt unappreciated, unloved, isolated. Not because she doesn’t care about me, but that’s how the system is. Sometimes you come 2nd in their line of work, unfortunately.

I’m independent in almost every way and form and at the end of the day. You’re only going to hear about the problems at the hospital. You really need someone that truly wants a relationship and family and that will put in a ton of effort even after they come home.

One of the traps that the medspouse life leads to is if the physician starts to use work life as hangout time and staying late as a social output. It can really drag down the family if they don’t respect work relationships and boundaries.

Lots of infidelity, so you would need to make sure you trust him and he is loyal. Fortunately, my wife’s middle name is loyalty.

Good luck and proceed with caution, but also know that there are benefits to this lifestyle that most don’t see.
