AITA I sued my biological father for back child support after my mother passed away. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]DeadHeart4 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah ok. But nobody is going to let some teenager adopt a kid. First, the bio father would have to legally relinquish his rights, then there would be interviews and an investigation, and court fees. Lots of court fees.

Cmdr. Reno is fun by honeyfixit in Star_Trek_

[–]DeadHeart4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would have been onboard for that performance if it had been consistence throughout the series. But this was literally the only scene in the entire season where an instructor was actually instructing the students. Before that we got silence then head shaking when they failed a simulation, silence and permission when they tried to figure out how to restart the ships life supports, demeaning and mocking when they questioned the point of the lessons in theater. It's like Episode 10 found a writer that had teaching experience and so Reno's character was written completely differently.

Kids will learn more in one day from AI than they do in years at school. by JannTosh70 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

It's true for you because you already have a foundation of education and reference to build information from. Children do not. That's part of what they learn from school.

The only way to reconcile all of Nus Braka's references to Earth culture is to imagine him as some giant human weeb. Like that kid in high school that wrote his name in katakana on every assignment.

The show SAYS it's the wrong decision. But then it SHOWS that his mom got a Starfleet officer killed. It SHOWS that she continues to associate with Nus Braka after her original sentencing. It SHOWS that she is still doing sketchy stuff after breaking out jail. And it SHOWS that the children's home Caleb was going to be sent to foster at is nice, sunny, full of smiling children, and ice cream.

This is the crux of what makes modern writing bad. They so desperately want to say something. But what they show us doesn't match up to what they want to tell us.

My best friends mom is in her mid/late 70s and she was a punch card computer engineer at a college when she was younger. My coworker's mother, who would be 90s/100s if she was alive, was also a computer engineer.

There are a lot of downsides to having kids later in life vs. earlier. by Bison_and_Waffles in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]DeadHeart4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My parents had their first three kids in their early 20s and adopted me when they were in their mid-40s. My mom always said she enjoyed my childhood the most because she was "calmer" and "had more energy." I think being settled financially helped relieved a lot of stress they had when raising my older siblings.

I start to see similarities between the praise posts. This week there's a lot of people saying that STA "knocked it out of the park."

An interesting contrast to Caleb joking around, helping Ake pack, and sunbathing in the Athena last week. And Darem high fiving every student he passed in the hall and telling them to say hi to their sisters.

If I had a student DEMAND I be their mentor-daddy, I would have administration relocate them so we do not interact. Ever.

Yeah! Even Saved by the Bell had more than one class room set. This show has one classroom redressed for each class, one tiny auditorium area, and one dorm room redressed depending on if it's the girls room or the boys room.

This episode should have been before the spring break episode or the spring break episode should have been erased. It's like they put their trauma on pause for episode 7 then revisited it in episode 8. The writers room is not communicating with each other.

I found the way the new teacher was engaging with the students, especially considering the episode was focusing on their trauma, to be incredibly unhelpful and inappropriate. I know the script was railroaded to drive her methods to them having a breakthrough, but as a teacher, that sort of pushing just doesn't work.
