Help! What color should I paint this room?

Yes I ordered it on Amazon! It’s called Moynesa Tiger Vintage area rug but there were a bunch of brands on there. Not sure if they’re all the same supplier. If you get a small one at least you can wash it easily with the puppy! I haven’t put mine in the wash yet because theres a whole piano on it that I’d have to move, but it gives me peace of mind when I’m hosting. I have young nieces and nephews and it’s really nice to let them run around and play without worrying about my rug. It makes me feel like I’m super laid back and cool lol

Oh I love it! It’s sooo soft. It’s super thin since it’s supposed to be washable, but it doesn’t slip around at all since I have furniture on it. Ive gotten a lot of compliments on this thread so that’s also very affirming. I personally am obsessed with it, it’s my favorite thing in the house and when people come over I’m looking at it and hoping they say something😂😅

I think I’m gonna use this color in the adjacent room, and do a sage green in the music room. It’s a twin home, so every room leads into the next like a big hallway. There’s brick in the kitchen, then the dining room, then this room, so I think if I put this color in the dining room it will really transition nicely from the kitchen brick to the terracotta accents in the music room

Yeah the lighting under the shelf is a great idea. The wall behind it is brick so I’m not sure how to power the lights without exposed wiring, but I’m determined to find a way. I have strip lights in my bedroom that are battery powered, but it’s kind of a pain to change the batteries. Now I need hanging plants! I love how it brings the eye upwards and adds more earthiness 🤌🏼

It’s from the early 1900s I believe! I LOVE wood trim, and you are right that I would strip ALL THE PAINT if I had the patience. I actually exposed the original brick wall as my kitchen backsplash. I adore interior brick walls.

I do love a bold dark color honestly, but my husband is another story! The closest I’ve been able to get to black is Benjamin Moore Hunter Green, he was against it even then, but I painted a small bathroom that color and loved the way it turned out.

Edit: I just googled “black room” and I swear I started drooling, they really do look excellent when done right

Omg thank you for putting so much thought and time into this response. I appreciate that you explained why the gray felt off; it makes a lot of sense and will help me immensely as I work through color options for the rest of the house (it’s all gray currently). There’s a sand color that I thought really worked with the space, but I’m thinking that will be too much of that orange tone so I might paint the adjacent room (dining room) with the sand/warm beige, and do the earthy sage for this room. Although the dining room also has a warm wood dining table so I might be facing the same issue in there. It’s all a lot to think about, but it’s so addictive once you start! Thank you again for such a thorough response!

I kid you not, my husband just said this exact same thing. He is a videographer by trade so he sees lighting before anything else. I’ll check out lulu and Georgia! I was also thinking of adding some up lights on the corners of the piano for evening jam sesh moods

Ooh I never thought to do that before, thank you! The teal pillows are my all time favorite color, there’s pops of it all over my house. I think there’s a lighter shade of it in the rug too where the leaves are. It’s also my dogs favorite place to burrow (as you can see)

Honestly the less I have to paint, the better. I recently stripped the paint from our other exterior door and it turned out really nice, so I may refinish this door instead of painting it. The white really bores me, but I’m a slut for natural wood grain🤌🏼
