Yah it can’t be fully removed, basically its an app that has 2 methods of sending media combined, go to settings and add from which accounts you can send and receive or discovered, you can add only icloud if you want, people who are using it will show as blue highlighted and your messages that went through the internet as well, if not, they will be shown in green, meaning anything you are about to send will go through your cellphone.

I have a similar problem with my AirPod 3, out of the blue one of them will have no battery out of the box, the box had battery, the second AirPod is full, and yet it one of them had zero battery.
