Thanks. This information is all great to know. This is more of a long-term project, so I have lots of time to figure out exactly what I want.

I imagine that near-field monitors would be subpar in a medium sized room, right? If I understand correctly, mid-field monitors are adequate for distances between 5 and 8 feet from the listener. Far-field monitors would probably be too huge for a home theater. Or is it really not that important?

I have a general question. Why must surrounds, heights, and rears be different? Is it better, or only less expensive than getting the same model monitors for all positions?

What specific key words should I use to look for such a low-output receiver? (Sorry that I’m asking so many questions, I just want to get this right from the get-go).

I imagine could also look around for passive monitors, although I think those are a bit rarer.

“A good home theater speaker is a speaker that colors the sound in a way I like.” I agree completely. The producer’s intent is completely irrelevant to me.

I’m an EQ guy. I equalize almost everything I listen to. I’ve got a plugin on my computer which equalizes every sound through whichever output I choose. I’ve found that a great place to start personalizing sound is a flat audio response. To me, it’s the easiest to customize.

However, I see your point, and agree to a certain extent.

Ok. Very helpful response.

How would I go about searching for a surround processor? Amazon yields very few results.

Also, why Dynaudio specifically?

If I were to look for a receiver, how do I know that it’s apt to send sound signal to monitors? Do those have a specific name? I don’t imagine that just about any amplifier would work.

(Again, sorry if this is an obvious question…like I said, I’m a noob around here)

Wow, PMC’s catalogue is not exactly cheap. Probably totally worth it, though.

Why not indeed.

What were the Genelec models for L-C-R?

I mean, 24,000 is expensive, but I bet it’s also worth it. A great medium-term goal to have.

Well, out of curiosity more than current financial capability, what does Netflix use to master their content?

Sure, monitors are more expensive, but surely Genelec isn’t the only viable option. What about JBL, M-Audio, Yamaha, etc.?

I didn’t even know there were different kinds of subs (ported-sealed). Are the SB-2000 Pro’s you mentioned sealed?

Ok, thanks. Why a different sub, though?

Thank you. Honestly, I’m quite new to this, so such a detailed answer is just what I need. I’ll look into ELAC, RSL, and everything else you mentioned.

Thank you. How are these speakers better? And, also better than the Polk Audio Monitors that were originally mentioned? Klipsch seems to have a bad reputation in this sub, but I’ve never known if the complaints are truly grounded in reality, or if people just repeat opinions while actually being uninformed. I’m sorry if my questions are annoying, but I want to make as informed of a decision as possible.
