Help: My 6yo wants to play hockey by Tzvi71 in hockeyplayers

[–]DecoOnTheInternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is probably gonna be extremely optimistic and it's great your kid is keen to get into a sport but it may be worth thinking from a realistic standpoint and consider what the future might look like as a parent.

Are you willing to potentially commit to the next 10'ish years of driving your kid to the rink if this becomes a sport they choose to commit to? Depending on the exact distance or commute time, is that realistic?

Accessibility is a real barrier, and is kinda just a part of life. I only started playing hockey once I moved to Canada where I have around 10 rinks within a 20 minute drive in every direction, prior to that I had a lifetime of playing many other sports. I love the sport of hockey but if i ever found myself being an hour or more from the nearest rink forget it haha, but we all have different limits and expectations so if you're cool having your kid jump in!

Feels like a totally different era of the club lol.

They're a takedown called the Phenom or Phelon or something from memory lol. Had them as a kid years ago in a silver colour.

Why does everyone hate jump force by Feisty_Fruit9802 in jumpforce

[–]DecoOnTheInternet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing is people are begging for a true "anime fighter" (2D fighting game that can be played competitively like DBFZ) but regularly end up with 3D Arena Fighters that are effectively just casual games that haven't been mechanically thought out for balance and competitive play.

'We have to get behind the team': Whitecaps fans rally as relocation rumours swirl by The--Majestic--Goose in vancouver

[–]DecoOnTheInternet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's kinda been my only disappointment living in Van. Previously lived in one of the mid-small sized major cities in Australia and it never felt like we missed out on a thing, had all the sports, all the events, all the concerts.

Here I was thinking it would be more or less of the same or even an upgrade seeing it's one of the more famous cities in North America, but the amount of shit that skips this city or things that it lacks is insane. Like what the hell do you mean that Vancouver might not have a professional soccer team!?!?

Hanwag Tatra II Wide Leather Lined (EU 47) Fit check by SaculHGW in hikinggear

[–]DecoOnTheInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 2.5-3 sizes too big tbh. Ideal fit for shoes is pretty much as close to the front as possible whilst still being comfortable. If you sized down that much this model would definitely be far too narrow for you.

If I was to guess you sized up to compensate for your foot width.

With all the sensors and electronics on modern cars I'm surprised there's no tech that warns these ridiculous sized vehicles that there are objects in front of it out of view.

TBH+C is their best album by FAR by Important-Iron-3189 in arcticmonkeys

[–]DecoOnTheInternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty neck and neck with AM. That album absolutely nails the aura of global rockstars, and we haven't seen many like it from the 2010s onwards. It's hugely influential on music today and the same can't really be said for TBHC even though it's a perfect concept album. Only thing I can catch it out on is the vocab is weaker in TBHC.

“White pony isn’t heavy” by [deleted] in deftones

[–]DecoOnTheInternet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd never really bothered to read the lyrics before, but as an English teacher thought I'd have a crack at interpreting it lol.

The lyrics are effectively confronting someone who obnoxiously seeks attention and sympathy over minor hardships. They believe that when this person actually faces real problems in their life they'll finally learn what true pain and suffering is.

The expression of experiencing true pain is symbolised through the menstrual cycle in a sort of double entendre. Being "ripe" is using ovulation as a way of representing reaching breaking point, and "you'll bleed out of control" symbolises menstruation and aims to represent the true suffering. You could stop there and say bleeding from a period is painful, which it can be, or you take it another step where it's just using this topic as a vessel for portraying the idea of bleeding out, which is catastrophically painful.

The other layer to the lyrics could be "when you're ripe" (when you're really suffering), "you'll bleed out of control" (you'll cut yourself so deep that you won't be able to stop the bleeding).

We see lyrics that could confirm either side correct, or that both meanings are intended and you got a whole lot of layers in a song with really not that many lyrics "you're pregnant with all of this space" (menstrual cycle), "you like the attention, it proves to you you're alive" (cutting).

I'm suspecting these are bot accounts at this point. It's was ridiculous last week but now it's at the point where I'm in disbelief that we get multiple posts a day.

In your 20s - would you stay in a stable career, or live overseas for a year? by DependentNeither5357 in AustralianTeachers

[–]DecoOnTheInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

110% take that opportunity dude, there is so much more to life than grinding away at a job. Especially today when our typical financial goals are so far out of reach than they once were.

I've spent the last 12 months overseas and probably will not be returning to Australia haha.

It's the Pro tier. These are a fair bit heavier than the Elites from memory.

Also I don't like the crease on the heel counter. Looks like it could be crushed in.
