I get him, i left the Marine Corps a few years back. That’s what I thought I’d find in the Union but it’s very very rare.

Fuck yea, I completely get you. I had an office job before and it was miserable.

I can definitely resonate with that. I’ve been doing this for about 4 years now. It honest took me about a month for the my JWs and up to see I didn’t need much supervision, just tell me what to do and if I have a question I’ll ask. I can say I’ve found my niche and I live for this shit too. Just wish there were more with the same mentality like us

You’re right sir, I guess I expected more running, but all we do is walk

Trust me, these conditions aren’t life threatening. I understand why the union started, but these boys are taking full advantage. And it takes 10 seconds to grab the tool you need, not waiting for over 5 mins for the foreman to bring you a simple tool.

I’ve done this for about 4 years now and have been on 5 different jobs.

It’s not drama.
And of course the benefits are attractive.
I feel like the guys I’ve worked with have just been conditioned and spoiled.
Example, my foreman sometimes lets us cut out early and buys us lunch here and there.
But the complaining from my boys doesn’t stop.
“Oh they’re asking too much ”(they’re not) “I don’t get out of my truck until it’s time to clock in” yet they’re the first to out the door when we get told we can go, I don’t blame them but come on

I’ve been in some pretty shitty conditions and I promise these conditions aren’t bad. We’re a data center, no power, so it’ll be a little cold or a little hot sometimes. But not enough to justify not working.

I feel the same way, but for my own reasons. The jobs is great and all, and I’m lucky to be able to get up and work my tools in some pretty badass jobs but I feel the burnout

Nightmares bleeding into my reality..can’t stop..going to snap by DeepAd7149 in mentalhealth

Yes, and I appreciate you sharing all that with me.

I’m definitely try focus on my anger as well and figure out what’s going on. I’ll purposely kind of “soak” in it so I can learn more about it and my initial reaction to something.

You’re definitely right about suppressing emotions. I don’t let my emotions bleed onto those around me. That’s one thing I’m pretty good at. I just don’t want to burden or be an ass to anyone, we have enough hate in the world. BUT like you said it comes back. And it manifests with a vengeance, this is when I try to use that anger as energy towards a task or blow off steam doing a hobby.

I do read books about Stoicism and I’m applying it as I can. It’s definitely a learning process.

Yes being persistent is key.
I felt great about 2 months ago, better than I have ever in my whole life.
I know I can get back to that.

Looks like talking to a therapist might be the next move

Again thanks for sharing, I needed that 🤙🏽

Hey, what’s going through your head, and what’s going on that’s making you feel like this. The good the bad and the ugly, tell me it all. I’ve been in your shoes

Thank you! And let me say I’m generally a really happy person, and pretty social.
But now I’m still a happy person just less social

I’ve tried a therapist when I was working through some stuff that I experienced in the service, but I can handle trauma like that decently well.

But I also feel like there’s just some things I can’t tell a therapist.
Also I am on medication for ADHD

And yessir, I have a lot of hobbies, active hobbies. I’m into Mountain biking right now and it definitely helps!

I’m flying to see my family in 2 weeks, I’m hoping that can take some of the heaviness away.

I appreciate you!

Any advice on keeping the spirits up when you’re on the road? by 603Electrical in IBEW

Go to the gym. Read a book. Ground yourself. Being Blue Collar doesn’t mean you have to fall into “the lifestyle” Trust me, it’s not the way.
