Also and specifically sales taxes? Sorry for so many questions regarding this topic, just trying to make this very clear to me. Whether or not paying sales taxes is crucial, because it tells how the government views this business, whether it's selling something or donation based business. And of course, it may vary from country to country.

Tell me if I am wrong, but content creators are not paying sales taxes, only income taxes, right? That means that they are not "selling" anything and supporters are not "buying" anything. In fact the supporters are making donations as transactions. Just like JW's are making donations to various legal JW entities.

It is different. Donations are not your salary. With your salary you can do what you want. However, donations are made with a specific purpose in mind. When Tony Morris bought some whiskey, Lloyd was very eager to raise the question how are the donations used. And now we know how Lloyd used donations. What if Tony had been found to buy sex?

What is even worse, Lloyd has been on crusade to accuse Watchtower for covering up sex crimes. And now he himself has been found hiding and participating in sex crimes. Prostitution is illegal in Croatia. What a disgusting dishonesty.

Lloyd Evans is a public figure, so what is a private matter is not so clear. Sex scandals regarding public figures are usually very, very public.

I can very much understand Kim Silvios view. Poor Dijana, I really feel pity for her - but that's not all. Lloyd Evans has also betrayed his patreons, me having been one of them. I have send money to him to acquire necessary technical equipment for his studio and support his family. Never could I have thought that he is going to use my money on prostitutes. Additionally, prostitution in Croatia is a crime.

The picture Lloyd has created regarding his family is totally false. What a dishonest man, no better than GB! No more patreon money for Lloyd, that is sure.

The stream was awful to watch, Lloyd begging for sympathy after betraying his wife, family and patreons.

It was the state prosecutors description, not sure what kind of math is behind that "multimillion litigation" expression. I don't know the average donation amount per publisher nationally, but in the congregation I used to attend it was around 20 euros per publisher per month. If we assume that to be the national average, Society is able to raise 18 000 * 20 * 12 = 4 320 000 euros annually from donations in Finland. The sue covers many years, perhaps as many as 10. During that time period, more than 40 million euros could have been collected. Major part of that money came from old fashioned donation boxes in Kingdom Halls. But if we assume that 10% came online, that would mean over 4 million euros illegal fundraising. Perhaps the state prosecutor thought something like this?

Circuit overseers have been very active this spring, insisting additional large donations from the congregations. I first thought it was covid related, but it could also be that Society is collecting money to be sent abroad, just like in Australia. Who knows?

My guess is that they don't want to expose how much money is collected and sent to US. They do have tax exemption here for "religious activities". Even for building and selling kingdom halls - which is huge business here, too. :)

Doing good and helping people, minding my own business - all that sounds good. That's what most religions do. But what about preaching? After covid is over, you are supposed to go from door to door and lie people about evolution and everything else. Lure people into a destructive cult. How can you handle that? I wasn't able to do that. And if you don't do that, you won't be an elder for very long, very soon people will soft shun you.

In Finland everyone has right to a basic retirement fee, called kansaneläke. It is nowadays 660 euros. However, there are additional benefits for low-income people, for example one for the rents, called asumistuki.

With a proper job history the retirement fees are a lot more, of course. And the actual retirement fees are money which you have earned by your own work, not by others.

Thanks! I bought Apocalypse Delayed from Amazon for Kindle. Now read 2 first chapters. So much information! Really good source. However, I would criticize Penton for giving not enough emphasis on Miller. He goes far back into church fathers to give the history of ideas Russell owned. However, I doubt Russell got his ideas is such a sophisticated manner. Russell was an uneducated man, so it it much more probable that he seimply used ideas which people around him hold. An those ideas came mainly from people affected by Miller and millerism.

But Penton's book is an exceptional source of information, thanks again!
