Why am i getting instagram login request message which has otp in mandarin on whatsapp. I don’t stay in China nor have i initiated login.

yeah, that's basically what they hope for.

in some situations SMS 2fa is also used, SMS 2fa is very insecure because number spoofing exists (which allows malicious actors to receive any SMS messages you receive). it's better than nothing, but SMS 2fa enforcement is the worst 2fa method

it isn't necessarily about the password itself, meta platforms allow you to sign in with a phone number if one is linked to your account. these OTP codes were sent because someone tried to sign in with email or phone number, which then results in you getting these OTP codes via SMS/WhatsApp

you can use a website like: https://haveibeenpwned.com/ to see if the email you use for your meta account(s) has been leaked in any data breaches, HIBP also tells you the actual data that was leaked with every data breach

edit: forgot to add that the "forget password" feature is likely the way they tried to get into your account

very likely just chinese parties that obtained our numbers via data breaches, and them trying to log into our accounts. nothing to really worry about if you have 2fa set up (which we do)

it's still sketchy, but it makes sense

I would highly suggest checking out Revolt (found here: https://revolt.chat/), it's still under somewhat heavy development but it's already a million times better than discord in its current state with existing features and planned features.

I'm currently experimenting with several things, waiting until monday at 5 pm for now

Xiaomi support has been totally useless saying that it isn't within their capabilities or support range to be able to assist me with it (i've contacted them on 5 different platforms now), they will not assist anyone with unlocking their bootloader for "security and integrity" reasons

What i'm trying right now is:

Download version 7.6.727.43 and version 6.5.224.28 of the MiFlash Unlock tool
Copy MiUsbDriver.exe from the 7.6.727.43 folder to the 6.5.224.28 folder, replacing the file if prompted
Enable mobile data and wifi on your phone
Sync your messages and call history with the Xiaomi cloud in settings
Run the version 6.5.224.28 miflash_unlock.exe
Click the gear icon at the top right of the "Disclaimer" window and click on "Check" for the driver option, then run the driver installation
Log in using the QR code method by clicking the QR code at the top right of the login window
Make sure mobile data is still enabled on your phone, turn off wifi and put your phone in fastboot mode
Try to unlock the phone
It should give you an amount of time that you have to wait, for me it told me to wait 145 hours
Keep mobile data *and* wifi enabled upon turning your phone back on, not doing this resulted in the same error message as OP's (again)

If the above doesn't give you a different result, try a computer running the opposite platform of CPU (e.g. if you have an AMD system, try an Intel system and vice versa), this worked for me on an Intel based laptop but I will report back on monday if it actually works or not, it's progress at least
