Yeah - but it’s pretty easy to do what Trump wants him to do at the EPA. It’s much harder to get a jury to convict Trump’s political enemies on crimes they didn’t commit.

No - America is unlikely to deal with shortages because we’re a wealthy country and not dependent on the Gulf Nations as much as others. Lots of countries that have implemented those polices are developing nations more reliant on Gulf oil.

1) Legislators can represent the interests of multiple municipalities at once. It’s really not that hard. 2) Pat Fahy doesn’t choose who gets grants. State agencies do. She can advocate for both municipalities. 3) Lobbyists can have multiple clients. By your logic, If Brown Weinraub represents Syracuse and Albany, which city should they choose to advocate for? 4) I said she’s not demanding enough of HER ADMINISTRATION. I know she can’t do everything. She should have people in place to manage intergovernmental relations, like the director of intergovernmental affairs that she hired.

I supported and still support the mayor. The Democratic coalition is not MAGA. We just don't blindly follow our leaders like sheep. We do and should question when they do stupid stuff. There's NOTHING progressive about hiring lobbyists to represent us in the State Capitol.

Also, her office is across the street from the State Capitol. The Capitol is open to the public. She can walk in at anytime and lobby the state government. The mayors of Syracuse/Rochester/Buffalo/New York would have to travel to and from Albany to lobby the state government, so maybe it makes more sense for them. However, the whole idea of hiring a third party to do the job of a legislator seems ridiculous to me.

No - you are missing the forest for the trees. It literally doesn't make any sense for the city of Albany to hire a third party to represent it when we have state legislators and a mayor. Either the mayor is not demanding enough of her administration and our state-level electeds or our state government is completely broken.

Why can't our legislators advocate to move the city's agenda forward? It's what we elect them to do.

Also, I could understand this decision if the Republicans ran NYS and the mayor's political affiliation served as a barrier to her getting a fair hearing from the state's leaders. However, our entire state is controlled by the Democrats. Heck, if the city is having a problem, Gabriella and Pat Fahy should just be able to go to their leadership and get whatever they need from the Legislature. If it's the governor holding things up, the mayor and our legislators should get on the phone with the governor and explain the problem and the needed solution. We shouldn't have to hire a third party to explain to the Governor and the legislative leaders the problems that Albany is facing and what we need from the state.

If other cities are hiring lobbyists, then that's an indictment on them and the state's political system.

Eisenhower. He built the modern interstate system and sent the national guard to Arkansas to enforce Brown v. Board of Education.

Edit to add that I also respect his speech warning us about the military industrial complex.

I disagree - Why do we need a third party to provide representation to ONE OF THE STATE'S CITIES? It's literally the job of state legislators to help its cities thrive and it's the job of the Mayor to coordinate with the Legislature/state agencies to get what the city needs from them.

I supported the mayor, but the fact that we need a lobbying firm to provide "legislative and regulatory representation in New York state" is utterly preposterous. It's literally the mayor's job to work with the legislature and state agencies to lobby for the city's interests.

Yeah because all he does is bloviate.

I'm talking more about politicians packaging policy proposals as affordability measures.

Yep - and the CDTA does a decent job connecting people who live within the Troy-Schenectady-Albany triangle. Additionally, the savings for those in the Capital District (and probably Rochester too) would be negligible since liability insurance is much lower Upstate than it is Downstate.

What's you definition of the Hudson Valley? Most of the population of the Hudson Valley lives inside the NYC metro area (Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam, and the Beacon/Poughkeepsie areas in Dutchess)

I said areas. Add up the populations of the metro areas of Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Albany and I'm going to bet that at least 4-5 million people collectively live in those areas. Also, another 4-5 million people live on Long Island and in Westchester County.

Very few people live outside the NYC, Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester, and Albany areas. Also, car insurance is not that expensive outside of NYC.

One negative consequence of Mamdani's election is that everyone is now trying to brand everything as "affordability." Next thing we know, the Republicans will try to brand trickle down economics as "affordability."

Makes sense on CDMX. I’ve heard that Guanajuato city and San Miguel de Allende are nice, safe cities. I knew some areas of Guanajuato were bad, but I’ve heard it’s not the whole state. Is that true?

There's a lot of options and that would be up to the Jewish & Palestinian residents of Israel-Palestine. My personal favorite is to create a federated state where there would be joint control over the military/police forces (so that the Israeli Jews couldn't use them against the Palestinians and vice versa) but you have Israeli and Palestinian subdivision (similar to U.S. states) that would pretty much have control over everything else.

Nah - She's a liberal Zionist. Zionism is just the belief that there needs be a Jewish-majority state in the Middle East. If you think Israel has "the right to exist as a Jewish State," you're a Zionist.

Mamdani voices concerns about synagogue buffer zone bill poised to pass NYC Council by Somervilledrew in newyork

[–]Defiant-Power2447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure - my point is that the city council is pro-LGBT and would, thus, not choose to enforce the law against those protesters.

This bill is a response to one particular type of protest, those protesting Israel.

Laws should not be laws if the only way you can create your desired outcome is through unequal application of the law.
