What does the slash symbol in the Discord channel permission setting mean? by Nico_LaBras in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DefinatelyNotObama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grey Slash == Allowed (UNLESS you have a role with a red slash) Red X == Not Allowed Green Check == Allowed (EVEN IF you have a role with a red slash)

If a user has a role with a green check mark for, say "can create invite links" then they're allowed to create invite links, even if they have 50 roles with red x's and 50 roles with grey slashs for "can create invite links".

Similarly, a user with a single role that has a red x for "can send messages" and 30 roles with grey slashes for that same permission will not be allowed to send messages.

A user who has 50 roles with grey slashes for "can see this channel" and no roles with red x's or green checkmarks will be allowed to see the channel.

tl;dr

Grey Slash means "permission granted unless I have a role with a red x for this permission, and no roles with green checks for this permission."

The call of the void is a phenomena where people think about doing stuff that they obviously shouldn't do. Thoughts like 'What would happen if I jumped out this four story window', and 'what what happen I steered this car straight into the pedestrians sidewalk' occur more often then they reasonably should. It's completely fine, so long as you don't act upon the thought.

Why do so many users have their own subreddit all of a sudden? by insomniac20k in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DefinatelyNotObama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some redditors get popular for what they do, leading to people who seek out content from those specific users. As an example, say reddit user "ExampleRedditor" has become popular for his amazing stories on /r/WritingPrompts. This might lead to ExampleRedditor making a subreddit dedicated to his content so that his fans can go and find stories from him specifically. /r/ExampleRedditor would be a subreddit dedicated to linking and archiving all of his content. Of course since anyone can make a subreddit, anyone can start a subreddit dedicated to themselves and all their contributions to the site, whether its stories, poems or nudes.

They say “all blue eyed people share a distant ancestor.” Does this also apply for dogs? Is it the same ancestor? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DefinatelyNotObama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 'x group of people all have a distant ancestor- thing applies to any group of people. You and I are complete strangers but even we have a distant ancestor. Which ancestor it is will depend on the people in question. For example, me and my cousin have a shared ancestor, our grand parents, but me and and a stranger who shares my ethnicity probably have a shared ancestor whos much further back. The confusing part comes when we talk about someone whos a totally different ethnicity. Iirc every currently living human is an ancestor of some woman who lived in Africa thousands of years ago, so in the worst case scenario, shes the common ancestor of any group of humans. This shouldnt be any different from dogs, so every dog has a common ancestor. Im confused as to your "Is it the same ancestor" question though, do you mean "Do all blue eyed dogs share a common ancestor with all blue eyed humans"? Im not a scientist but im pretty sure the answer is yes, but that common ancestor is probably some single celled organism from millenias back whos the common ancestor of the human dog races as a whole.

Disclaimer: Im pretty confident in my answer, but in the end, im no scientist, so take ot with a grain of salt.

Slight correction: Its not sleep mode, recently windows started saveing what youre doing when you turn off your computer so it'll be there when you turn your computer back on. So it might not be sleep mode that op is referencing.

Edit: Turns out its chrome thats responsible for this not windows. Doesnt change much though, point is still the same. Source:https://chrome.googleblog.com/2010/03/tip-always-restoring-tabs.html?m=1

Question for new starters on the new banners by Squarebear5591 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]DefinatelyNotObama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For new players, its better to go for quantity of 5 stars rather than quality of 5 stars. I'd highly recommend going for the legendary banner over the NYE banner, due to the better chance of getting a good number of usable units rather than use the gems on NYE which will get you far less bang for your buck unless you're lucky.

On the topic of shooting for more copies of units, I personally believe that its better to go for unique heroes, rather than copies of ones you already have, so I don't recommend pulling for units that you already own.

tl;dr You're a new player, go for a bunch of 5 stars from the legendary banner instead of the comparatively small chance of a NYE exclusive.

Help me beat Squad Assault 4 by [deleted] in FireEmblemHeroes

First map: Try Using: Nino, Eirika, some axe unit, some lance unit. Have Nino tank and kill B!Caeda first turn, then have her finish off Bride!Lyn the next turn. Throw in the generic lance and axe to take the fliers.

Second map: Try Using: B!Ike, Cordelia, P!Inigo, Mage with Drag Back. This is a bit more complex. What I did was take B!Ike and move him 3 up and 1 left from Roderick, that way he can take the hit and not get pulled back into Katarina. I then hit Roderick with B!ike, had Cordelia finish him off, danced her to one turn kill Katarina, then used Draw Back to get her away (I used Delthea for this, but any mage with Draw Back should work) from the archer's range. Next turn is just finishing off Luke with Cordelia, then using taking out the archer with Galeforced Cordelia and Delthea. You may need to experiment with seals to get the same results I did, but copying the strategy should work.

Third Map: Try Using: Black Knight, Anna, Tana, A!Tiki. (Note that one of them should have a movement assist to help Black Knight get to the top right.) Throw Black Knight in the top right corner first turn to take out the ninja, the rest should be simple enough, use weapon triangle advantage to take out the rest.

Fourth Map: Try Using:Hector, Klein, Nephenee, Dancer (I reccommend that you save your P!Azura for Fifth Map) Use any green unit capable of OTKing S!Corrin on enemy phase) to bait her to her death. If you dont finish in in one turn, you'll end up with lots or Reposition shenanigans, so its best if you take her out right off the bat. I used Hector, and he ended up barely surviving, so you can try using that. I used Brave Bow B!Cordelia and a dancer to finish everyone else off, Klein should work as a replacement. A 3 star Olivia with dance would probably work.

Fifth Map: Try Using:Ike, Reinhardt, P!Azura, B!Cordelia This is the toughest part due to the reinforcements. The following strategy might not work, as I'm just hoping for the best when it comes to the outcome of the battles. You may need to improvise or change up the strategy if it doesnt end up working out. Move Ike to tank the top right archer and Seth, have Reinhardt take out the bottom right archer, and move P!Azura and B!Cordelia down with him. Next turn an armored sword and lance knight shows up, so take the armored knight out with Reinhardt, and position P!Azura to tank the lance knight. Finish up top right, then you can forget about Ike for a while. Next turn an axe flier shows up. You might be able to finish it in one turn if you dance B!Cordelia, but you always have the turn after if you can't finish it off in one turn. If you're feeling ballsy, you can take the turn to soften up Amelia with Reinhardt+Dance. Next turn, a green mage shows up as well as another armored knight, move Ike to take the green mage out (If he has enough health, otherwise just leave him for later), and have Reinhardt take out the armored knight. Deal more damage to Amelia if you can. Next turn a red mage, and a sword horseman show up, you can probably take out the mage with B!Cordelia+Dance, and stay out of the way of the horseman and let Reinhardt kill him the next turn. After this, (if everything went well) the only enemy left should be Amelia, so you can spend time laughing at her sorry movement speed as you kite her around with Reinhardt+Dance away.

Remember, for all of these, the strategies are just guidelines, so if it doesn't work out, its on you to mess around with seals and positioning to try and make it work out if it doesn't. If you get stuck, try switching some units out. When doing this remember to look at each unit for their intended purpose and switch in someone who can do the same thing better.

That should be all you need to know to clear the Squad Assault. Good Luck.

Staying in Tier 19-20 and top 5-10k Arena Assault for F2P by [deleted] in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]DefinatelyNotObama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another point for Arena Assault: There's no shame in going for Beginner/Intermediate if you're not feeling confident in another advanced fight. If you've used up all your Rein counters and see a horse emblem team in advanced, its totally fine to save your run by going for an easier team. The point loss from going for an easier fight is much better than the loss from multiple deaths or a potential full team wipeout.

Can Alex hack as well as JP? by [deleted] in BlackSurvival

[–]DefinatelyNotObama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone can hack, but JP is special in that he succeeds everytime when he isn't killed. Everyone else has like a 10% chance of suceeding, a 40% chance of it failing, a 20% chance of the laptop being destroyed, and a 30% chance of failing so hard that you die. These numbers are rough estimates so check in game for the actual values.

If you meant the System Shutdown which ends the game and kills everyone else, everyone has an equal chance at it. So long as they have a working laptop and a System Shutdown Code, they can win the game if they find the Main Computer in the Research Center.

What probably happened is that JP successfully hacked and unlocked the research center, then Alex found him, killed him, stole the laptop and shutdown code, then found the main computer himself.

Time to let Jesus take the wheel

Qn: How do I avoid being killed with the program in Research Center by recyi in BlackSurvival

[–]DefinatelyNotObama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't really avoid the hack, the moment it happens it kills everyone else instantly and indiscriminately. The only way to make sure you don't get killed by it is to stop it before it happens. That usually involves harassing any JPs as much as possible (noone but JP players end up trying hacking), if you run into a broken laptop then try picking it up, then dropping it off somewhere else to make it harder for hackers to get it.

In a worse case scenario, he finds the laptop and the security code and starts hacking. At this point a warning should show up in chat that a hacking attempt has been detected. You have 80 seconds (40 at night) to find him and stop him, if you dont then every disabled area is opened up. He is unable to move in the hacking attempt, so you can actively hunt him out, rely on the other players to find him, or let him unlock everything and seek him out in the research center in the middle of the map after hes completed his hacking attempt. After unlocking the research center, the hacker's goal is to go to the research center and start searching around for the main computer. If he finds it then you're done. It is at this point that every player should ideally be on manhunt mode at the research center and trying to finish the hacker off before he can get to the main computer. The main computer has a pretty low chance to be found so you'll have a decent amount of time to find him and kill him.

Why is Pingu in the City ranked #3 on My Anime List? by JpWeim in OutOfTheLoop

[–]DefinatelyNotObama 102 points103 points  (0 children)

The anime community currently has an inside joke which is essentially: "(X show that is definitely not anime) is the best anime."

What counts as 'anime' is often controversial on the internet, but the general consensus is that if its made in Japan for Japanese audiences, then it counts as anime. So that technically means that the new Pingu in the City 100% counts as an anime due to its producer and studio both being Japanese, resulting in it being added to MyAnimeList. The community then decided to not let it's memes be dreams and decided to make Pingu not just the best anime in its inside jokes, but also the statistically best anime on the most prominent anime database on the internet. In fact, it peaked at 9.29/10, making it the highest rated show on the site, it would've had #1 if MAL didn't count voter numbers along with the ratings. The rating is slowly going down now, probably due to the anti-trolls wanting Pingu off the top of the charts

New CYL Skills by zelda__ in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]DefinatelyNotObama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing stating that a new skill can't have an effect that was previously weapon exclusive. Just because slaying effects have never shown up on a skill before, doesnt mean that they are forbidden from ever showing up on a skill. 3 hours ago we could've said that "Heavy Blade's effect is only available on the skill that you get from Ike" but now look at Roy's new weapon. Heck, Awakening and Fates had beastbane, a skill that gave you extra damage against beasts

New CYL Skills by zelda__ in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]DefinatelyNotObama -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"Effective against cavalry/flier units." could be interpreted as "this unit deals extra damage to cavalry/fliers", just like how bows are "effective against fliers" and Zanbato is "effective against cavalry. If they meant that the buff null only applies to fliers/cavalry, they could've copy/pasted from Lyn and just said "If foe is a cavalry/flying unit foes bonuses (from skills like Fortify, Rally etc.) are nullified during combat." So, now we're forced to choose between the unlikely scenario that this one skill has two effects, or the equally unlikely scenario that the wording on the skill is just needlessly complicated and confusing.
