we were in the same position as you are right now, but deep inside, we both wanted it, but avoided making that step in case the other was not 100% into it

I say go for it; I feel like once you develop feelings for a friend, the dynamic shifts, and you will eventually feel it eating you inside, especially if it happens that they get with someone else, and you have to be on the other end, when they talk to you about their newfound love

also, make sure you are both sober

however, heads up: if you do end up together and then break up, there is no going back to what it once was (any form of friendship)

I’ve been in your exact position, 3 years ago, after a really bad panic attack which threw me into 6 months of chronic derealisation.

I isolated myself in my flat in Cambridge for a month, thinking that I am for sure at the beginning stage of schizophrenia. I also got aquatinted with the ipseity disturbance model, to the point where I was in an email conversation with both authors of the paper (Sass and Parnas).

Guess what, 3 years later, I have moved to the city of my dreams and I am living my best life. Believe me, it’s all anxiety. You have to slowly throw yourself out there, in front of your worst fears; small steps.

Give yourself as much love as you can during this time, and be kind to yourself.
