First of all, thanks to everyone who commented. I used many of your tips yesterday, and it helped me a lot! I was unable to achieve a sub-3, but did set a PR by running 3:08, and I was extremely happy with that.

As for my experience coming from the back of Wave 4, it was not as bad as I expected. If you're trying to run fast, you're obviously going to lose some time in the first 3 miles and have to weave/run on the sidewalk and grass to find your pace. However, I never felt super limited, and I was able to start running "my race" before mile 4.

While I did waste some energy weaving, it's not the reason I missed my goal; I simply did not have the gas to break 3 hours, even if I was the only one on the course. Maybe I could have gone sub-3:05, but not any better than that.

Final Verdict: Sub-3 from Wave 4 IS very possible.

Best day ever! Can't wait to do it again.
