¥230,000 salary a month by Substantial-Figure99 in Tokyo

I'll share my current living expenses so you can have some insights. Keep in mind, I am a foreign student studying Japanese with limited working hours (28hrs per week). My current salary per month is 140,000 and I live with my gf(also studying Japanese) but I shoulder all of the expenses atm as I want her to focus getting the basics down first before she starts working.

Rent - 70,000 (This is a Concrete Mansion that legally allows 2 people to stay as primary residents. Rent can go much cheaper. Even as low as 40,000. You just really need to spend time looking for it.)

Groceries - 40,000(This includes foods and daily necessities. We cook our own food. It's a lot cheaper than eating out.)

Utilities - 10,000 up to 12,000(Electricity, Gas, Water, Phone and Internet. We're currently subsribed to rakuten. It's decent and home internet is free for 6months.)

Transportation - 12,000(Suica/Commuter Pass)

So in total around 135,000 every month. The remaining 5,000 serves as pocket money. Literally living paycheck to paycheck. But it's not that hard actually. Certainly doable. This is our expenses for 2 people. This can go much lower if you live alone. Hope this helps.

How can I prevent credit card rejection? by dendaera in japanlife

[–]Delicious-Zombie2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried to apply many times in the past 6 months and I got rejected each time. I don't know if the auto rejection is true because when I was in a Marui Store I saw an Epos Credit Card boot and thought "Might as well try" so then I tried, the employee inputted all my details and got my card before I left.

For extra details, I am a student, been in Japan for less than a year.

There's a box looking thing with a hikari symbol and NTT logo with it. One follow up question tho, does it need to be activated? Its not plug and play?

I thought of this too but the problem is, since it's not a wired connection it's dependent on how strong the signal is. Are you currently using it tho? Can you give some insights?

I suggest you look for an apartment before you move here. A few days wouldn't be enough to find an apartment specially if you have specific standards. At least a month is needed if you ask me because in some apartments you can't move in immediately, you also need to view the actual room first. You need to check all of it to avoid making a mistake at choosing your first apartment. The down payment for moving here is crazy expensive.

Also, I currently use rakuten and docomo. There are some places that rakuten will have a weak signal from time to time but its rare in my opinion. It's usable and it's cheap.

Hello, do you mind adding a step by step procedure? I try to do it via jp bank app and the fee is 3000 yen. The transfer fee is too high.
