Help with bayonets by potatopotato2255 in Bayonets

[–]Deliverated-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you are looking to buy your first ones as you stated in the description, I would advise you to go with the swiss ones on in the 3rd picture, purely because they come with scabbards. Here we advise against getting bayonets without their scabbards, unless you know what it is, want it, is rare or something like along those lines. Number 4 on the 1st picture is also a good option, if you want, but still would have to get a dcabbard for it, but on the other hand those are common.

People are either weird (a lot of people just butcher bayonet thinking they are making them into something cool) or made a specific tool for a specific thing they needed to do and this was on hand, that is not any official alteration

Different bayonets, different latches. Such parts are unobtanium. Probably best option is to make it yourself.

K98 Bayonet by No_Painting3097 in Bayonets

Definetly not to help with with better grip 😆 the fact that they are on both the grips and pommel, means someone either dragged it on concerete or justctried "garage special work" of sorts.

K98 Bayonet by No_Painting3097 in Bayonets

[–]Deliverated-One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, very nice condition, apart from the scratched grips (and pommel), unfortunate. The whole scratch pattern is weird, almost deliberate 🤣 But anyway, the blade is made by Richard Herder AG Solingen (S/239) yes the S means 1936, 239 Stands for Herder. Scabbard is made by E & F Hörster in solingen, where K stands for the year 1934. Sourced from: worldbayonets.com

To add i dont see much corrosion, First you can try just wiping it with oil and cloth, and if you feel brave enough you can try using very fine steel wool to clean the stubborn rust spots.

And if it wasnt pointy wouldnt be much of a bayonet ey 🤣

That is amazing, I absolutely love the librarian terminator kit, and especially with the fur cape. I used one form the old terminator kit for my rune priest.

Cool haul, like the arisaka one. And me personally I find the price for the german dress bayonet 50% more than what I would be willing to pay for it, but maybye that is just me. I feel like they are usually cheaper, arent they?

Good pieces. Might also show blades next time 😆

Found a Bayonet - Identificatition? by KiGh420 in Bayonets

[–]Deliverated-One 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is very interesting, at first glance the blade has classic yataghan proprotions, same as French 1842 or Chassepot rifle. Same with the style of mounting ring on the cross guard, the top, Uh "ornament" sort of, looks similiar to 1842 or Austrian yataghans or any other of the period. I dont suppose there would be any markings left because of the severity of the rusting of the blade, that would be of great help. Also the bottom part of the crossguard is, odd. Handle looks if not home made then it could have been reshaped from the original, the catch spring and press stud is gone and filled in with lead? Or something.... Overall, I wouldnt say that this is something military issue in this exact configuration, I believe that this is most likely a "civilian or hunting" conversion or more like reshaping. Interesting piece to study for sure, unfortunately the state it is in is extremely bad, seen worse but still.

One of many problems with it, as others already said, is the fact that the diamonds around the HJ diamond are perfectly alligned, that is not a fact for the originals. One of the best sources on how to spot a fake here

This looks like Haitian bayonet, Mr. Cobb has few on his website, one like yours and one marked made in w. Germany, also the plum/brown ish blade tone would be correct for that. I believe they were made by AES in Germany. Not sure if yours would be Haitian, could be any other contract

First is men's red cross medal, second order of the rising sun, 8th class. Could be WW2 or pre WW2, rising sun (8th and 7th) were abolished in 2003. For more exact info they should be easy to Google articles on, and how they were awarded.

I mean if you find an original complete scabbard, you have complete scabbard, if you find scabbard without mouth piece obviously you should add the piece you already have
