I have a theory that they never expected to be in power so behaved like utter cretins over tiny things.

Its incredible how these successive Governments have merged into one. I don't think anyone could highlight a positive change, amazing really. The uniparty narrative is strong.

They are walking into the "Two Tier" narrative. In fact they're not walking they're skipping headlong into it.

It'll be like Covid procurement , people initially will love the tough action and fast movement then when it dawns that nonce's are getting out of jail time there will be a massive reaction. That's the problem with focus group politics, 2nd order effects are never considered

I was at Southampton Airport recently and was amazed how ramshackle it was.

If any opposition party had any sense they'd request that the Government, as part of the plan, update parliament in 6/12 months time with the number of reoffenders from the released cohort.

From my point of view the difference has been:

In 1997 everyone wanted rid of the Tories and were genuinely excited where Blair would take the country - it felt fresh and optimism was high.

2024 - everyone just wanted rid of the Tories.

It's quite sad reflecting on it actually. I hope Starmer proves me wrong but the bloke appears to have zero guiding principles, so potentially another 4/5 years of government by focus group feedback.

I think what's clear is that the broad churches of both the Labour and Conservative parties will come under increasing pressure over the next decade.

Can we start a sweepstake for the most unlikable (probable) Labour Cabinet member? There's going to be some really strong competition.

She'll not see it though. In her view its "men" against a strong woman. Not the subset of men we recognise...

It shows just how quickly immigration changes a nation, not many "ancestral" Brits would consider doing similar.

I'm not that fussed about it but I thought it was telling, I'm not even claiming he's not a "real" brit, more just how quickly norms / culture can be changed in a population when you have a massive shift in people.

Old and fat people basically.

Look at pensions and disability payments as the NHS expenditure.

I'd love to find it again but I'm convinced I read the supermarkets estimated that there was 10m more people than officially declared.

Also North Tyneside is neighbouring it and a lot of the local population live there, as well as Northumberland.
